What’s going on in that last picture there ? Is that putty showing there ?

Mpi 350 is where my money is. 2002 onwards with the quick drain system shown there.

    mercruiser fault codes

Hi. These are standard inherent errors shown for sensors that aren’t fitted or applicable. These show up on vessel view on my mercruiser mpi. Saying that, the sea water temp might not normally be there. I’ll post a picture of the ones on mine below. They are blocked. Sw isn’t there. Might need...

    4.3GXi-J / SX-A with 1.51 ratio?

I personally wouldn’t put tabs on a hull like that. Will force the hull into the water more than I’d like. I’d just get her propped right. As for the gear ratio…what rpm and speed are you seeing now ? Is it a 17” you have now ? 1.5 seems a little high perhaps. Not sure on these VP to be honest...

    4.3GXi-J / SX-A with 1.51 ratio?

Hi. Not too long ago…I messed about loads propping a friends regal 1900. She had the same engine, but In mercruiser form and an alpha. What was immediately apparent is the noticeable lack of low down grunt these 4.3 mpi have…or certainly on that hull at least. After messing with lots of props...

    1987 CHRIS CRAFT AMEROSPORT 284

Might be a plate on it somewhere that tells you. Wee bit different where I am. We get a CE mark plate that tells you usually. I’d say at a guess, your boat will be getting on for about 5 or so ton depending on gear. Maybe little more.

    1987 CHRIS CRAFT AMEROSPORT 284

Hi. A friend had one of these with two 5.7 mercruiser. Was an incredibly quick machine with those in it. Would see into the 40’s at its best. If the engines are currently in good health and condition, there is a good chance they will out last the owner usually, if they are kept well maintained...

Are you starting it off it’s own wee battery or jump leads off a running engine ?

    Raw water pum

I’d have another look at the impeller. It might have ruined itself on the muffs.
  12. Q

    Raw water pum

What came first ? The muffs or the lake ? Very often these aren’t too good at taking water up from muffs. You may have worn the impeller I’m afraid. If so. Other than that. The power steering cooler can occasionally draw air and make the pump lose its ability. What engine is she ?

    Mercruiser 140 winterization.

Good idea for sure. Or at least crack open the drain plug to look. It’s happened here a few times that I know of. Usually on badly or seldom maintained or VP outdrive that all to often take in water at their rather poor fitting gear oil seals.

    Mercruiser 140 winterization.

Only other thing to check is that you don’t have a little water in the gear oil. If left king enough and enough if it in there..it can separate out at the lower level and can freeze if you were unlucky enough. Rare event…but has happened.

    Engine weight

I buy it all individually Jimmbo. It’s cheaper than my mercruiser for the consumables for sure. Only additional cost over a 2 stroke for a service is the oil in the sump. But I’d imagine the 2 stroke oil over a season would amount to vastly more expense for sure.

    Engine weight

Have a wee look at this. Very impressive. Can tell you first hand that I’ve compared my boat to an identical one with a 115 2+2 on it. Enormous difference in performance between the two. Seriously powerful machine for the 115 badge. Well known to be significantly more than the badge suggests. As...

    Rainbow Exhaust 5.7 Mercruiser

Hi. My thoughts on possibilities If the boat is new to you, it may have been fogged with 2 stroke or oil. It could be the choke sticking and it’s fuel You may be burning oil You have too much oil in it. It could be the power trim It could be gear oil from fittings on the lower unit or from a...

    496mag no start issue.

Hi. Before going too deep into things…I would 100% try starting it with jumper leads from the other running engine’s battery. These things won’t fire if the battery is anything but brilliant. Cranking takes that much load from a weak battery, that it won’t have enough left to actually fire the...

    Mercruiser 5.7L warm start challenges

Odds on to be the choke sticking or half way between. Very common issue.
  20. Q

Can a old mercruiser motor run very well with following pressures?

If that’s an engine that’s not ran for a while, you’d likely see better after it’s back in action. Easy for valves to pass a little on such an engine. Then be improved after she’s running. Oil around about her will also help.
