2 stroke randomly does not want to start + house battery voltage seems low

The Blues Seas has both a charge and isolation functions. It will not open the charge relay until it see 13.2 volts and it will not connect to a battery that has less than 12.4 volts. Your house battery (12.1V) isn't charging because the voltage is too low. There is a voltage and amperage...

    Volvo AQ131D cruising speed

The biggest influencer of fuel consumption is the weather. What conditions will you be facing the day of your journey? It's 80 miles each way to the canyons to fish. Typically cruise 27 kts, 4400 rpm (5950 rpm red line) in a 22' outboard powered boat In flat, windless conditions I get 2 mpg...

SiriusXM Weather - new receiver worth it over old one?

While I have radar available, my first line of defense is NOAA WX on VHF. NOAA broadcast the current location of the storm cell(s) and the current heading(s) and speed. If the storm's path is in your vicinity, you should have no problem putting an eyeball on the storm cell to see if I need to...

SiriusXM Weather - new receiver worth it over old one?

How about option 3....none of the above. The GXM 30 was discontinued 15 years ago. Replaced multiple times since. Now the GX54 @ $900 plus annual XM subscription. Just not a fan of XM at all. When all is said and done radar is the best and most cost effective technology.

Guessing young adult kids text back rather than call?

A txt is far less intrusive and more efficient than a phone call. I'm a Director of Sales. Don't have a land line in my office. Don't want or need one. Everything is done via text, email or Teams meeting. Can sit in a meeting and have a conversation with a Service engineer or a customer w/o...

SAFETY ALERT: Bow Seating Hazard (Malibu)

Because "stuff" happens that is out of control of even the best Captains. The best defense is to not put a passenger in a position to be injured to begin with. I enforce the rule nobody forward of the helm while the boat is in motion. In most States it's illegal to ride on the bow while in...

My friend forgot to lock the hitch. Doh!

Many moons past, I forgot to latch the hitch on the way out on a 4 am fishing trip. Fortunately, the hitch came off just as I was pulling out of the driveway. No damage, but a valuable lesson to double check everything before leaving.

Difference between group 31 and 29 deep cycle batteries

Ran into a similar situation last Spring with Walmart when I replaced both Everstart 27DC batteries after 10 years of service. In shopping around I noticed the price on the 27DC had dropped a good bit. Dug into it a bit and found the amp hour rating had dropped going from 109AH to 86AH. On top...

Difference between group 31 and 29 deep cycle batteries

The difference between the two is physical size only. Amp hours is a function of plate density. Both weighing the same is the give away.

GARMIN UHD2 5CV software updates and inland SD cards are the price.

Download software to SD card on computer and install in unit. No idea on inland chip. Being a coastal guy, I ordered the X4 unit came pre-loaded with a full compliment of coastal charts. Did you not order the 53 version that includes inland maps?

Is a Tiny Tach a good choice for testing?

Just bought a knock off on Amazon to set the idle on the mower. Has a bit of hysteresis when changing rpm, but seems to be pretty accurate once it settles down. Can't complain for $15

2000 Johnson 200 Ocean Pro - Out Of Ideas... Please Help

To me, that falls under the category of doesn't idle. What RPM are you idling at on the hose? Mine idles 1,250 -1,300 rpm on hose, 725-750 rpm in the water All cylinders on mine are between 98 and 105 psi. Either your gauge is out of calibration or down 30% in compression.

2000 Johnson 200 Ocean Pro - Out Of Ideas... Please Help

I would not put another dime into that motor until you get the compression sorted out. It's never going to idle with compression numbers like that. Twenty years and two power heads and counting on Evinrude Ocean. It's been a decent motor but its been problematic at times. Fortunately my...

Most stable hull design for trolling in rough water

While weight, in the right places, plays a big role, hull design plays a huge role in how the boats reacts on the troll and in the rough. https://thecaptain.tv/articles/capt-eric-sorensen-explains-the-finer-points-of-deadrise/
