Volvo Penta 5.7 GI-F (2006) water in Cylinders

They had those on the AQ style drives, but not on the SX style drives IIRC. The SX style drives had an exhaust bellows similar to the OMC Cobra because the whole OMC transom mount/gimble assembly was adapted from OMC's original design.

Volvo Penta 5.7 GI-F (2006) water in Cylinders

The intake manifold can rust out below the thermostat housing (this would be more common in salt water areas, probably uncommon in freshwater), but that will put water directly into the motor oil right in the cam valley below the intake manifold, not in the cylinders. How old are the manifolds...

That’s just like my local ramp. Why the bunk trailer may work only at high tide….

VP 4.3GS Carb Tuning Vacuum Port?

Wanna laugh I had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM with a brand new 4160 specified for the V6. Rich running no matter what I did. Called their tech line tried everything. In disgust I pulled the 30 year old QJet out of the garage that I thought was too old to rebuild. Took my time to really clean it &...

Volvo Penta 5.7 GI-F (2006) water in Cylinders

VP does sell several sized taller exhaust elbows however I’m not sure that everything will line up on the original Y pipe, I never agreed 100% with their decision to remove the flappers. I have the exact same flapper design on my Cobra (which VP adapted for the SX) and never had water in the...

    Batwing manifolds

96-99 I think I had the OMC version on my boat & never had a prob with them. Converted to the 2 piece OMC/Volvo style in 2017.

No particular pressure you just shouldn’t be able to blow thru it

VP 4.3GS Carb Tuning Vacuum Port?

An easy way to tell is to remove the carb drain the fuel out & see if you can blow thru the inlet with the carb flipped upside down. If you can the needles aren’t holding.

Are you sure that the needle valves are holding & cutting off fuel flow when they should?

VP 4.3GS Carb Tuning Vacuum Port?

The marine Holley I bought a few years ago had no external float adjustment, you had to take the bowls off to adjust. The Quickfuel Marine carbs (a modified Holley design) do though.

The idle transition slots should look like a square when viewed from under the throttle plates.

1987 3.0GM OMC - stall shifting from neutral, missing ESA?

Because the original (black) cable supplier changed specs & OMC was slow to train techs how to adjust them. Recall cable was red. As much as has been said it isn’t hard to do this you have to follow the steps & don’t take short cuts! As I said I figured this out myself in one afternoon. It’s not...

1987 3.0GM OMC - stall shifting from neutral, missing ESA?

What may have happened, is that someone removed the ESA module, and wired it like a Merc Alpha, so that when the shift cable flexes as you shift from FWD or REV into Neutral, it momentarily shorts the ignition to ground. That can work, as long as you shift quickly so that it doesn't stall the...

    1986 seaswirl nightmare

I replied back... you're gonna need to get the special shift cable tools, and a good factory shop manual along with the other stuff I posted in our conversation. yes keeping one of these going is challenging, I have been able to do it and I'm not a trained mechanic all self taught. and, all this...

VP 4.3GS Carb Tuning Vacuum Port?

Interesting even though the carb I linked is listed to be the one they used by Holley, maybe someone replaced it along the way with a more generic Holley carb.

    1986 seaswirl nightmare

Do a search on my user name I have posted a few times how to check the shift cable & how to adjust it. If done right it will shift like new if the drive is in good shape in the first place. It is a multi step process and you can’t take short cuts.
