    It is simple to take starter apart for inspection.----Do that before you rush out and buy a new one.----If starter is good then look for wiring ( loose ) issues.

    When you push the key in ( not cranking ) the electric primer valve opens.----And it does nothing if there is no fuel pressure to it.-----So when motor is cranking the fuel pump puts pressure to it.-----Fuel from primer valve then sprays directly into the intake air flow.-----Very simple unit...

    Not many folks who buy the latest / greatest new technology are concerned these days.----People buy electric vehicles from start up companies as an example.----Would you buy that new car if you knew that head light lenses were $2000 or so?-----Or if it is $150 labor to install a new 12 volt battery.

    See your local dealer and get his opinion on parts availability / cost of service.----Do a compression test before you decide on it.-----Or better yet just walk ( run ) away.

    I would say motor is running too cold when trolling.----Check thermostat.-----Should be able to troll for a week without having to change plugs every hour.

    Run fuel out of the carburetors when you are done boating.-----Empty carburetors stay clean.

    We are talking 4 stroke on this thread.----The book shows an idle mixture screw.----The book shows an idle speed screw.--------Books says 4/5 turns out on the idle mixture screw.----Idle speed screw limits closing of throttle plate I believe.

    Agreed----Most folks are limited to pushing buttons.-----If there is no button to push folks are stumped.-----Common sense often does not exist.---.------Folks even need a monitor / warning to keep track of oil in their vehicles.

    See post #18-----Taking the cylinder head off to inspect cylinders is the quickest / easiest / most cost effective step in trouble shooting.----Very few people can accept this simple fact.

    You will be delighted with a new 4 stroke.-----Computor does all the thinking for you.------Trouble free boating with a 4 stroke until there is trouble.

    These motors may have had a history of rocker arm wear.-----Checked valve clearance on it or just drilled the hole ?

    The early JOHNSON / EVINRUDE 4 strokes were their own design I believe.-----After all they used the ( modified ) 2 stroke carburetors and familiar lower units.----Ignition components were also similar to 2 strokes.
