2006 Sea Ray I/O 5.0 mpi shuts off when I put it in gear

Is this an alpha drive or bravo ? If alpha would disconnect the shift interrupt switch see if it goes in gear without dying If it goes in without dying with switch disconnected would think you need a lower shift cable

    Accurate Horsepower Figures

If the boat was a 5.0 originally most 5.0's I've seen take a 1.62. Only higher HP like MPI in lighter hulls seem to get the 1.47 drive. Agree with other HP assessments. Your original 2 bbl 5.0 would have been 220 hp. Your 5.7 with MPI or 4bbl carb would be 290 /300 hp. With a 2 bbl 250/260 is...

a carburetor shouldn't spill fuel like this, right?

You can use a simple fuel pressure gauge, oftentimes places like autozone will rent them to you . Biggest issue you will have to rig up a T to test it. Merc makes a test fitting but it is a little salty for one time use ... Fuel line is 3/8" double flare fitting, probably rig up a fitting to...

Engine inspection tips for used 4.3L V6 or 305/350 V8 equipped mercruiser I/O setups.

They should be willing to run and water test the boat. If not assume there are issues. your list of look fors is pretty good. Issue is with no load on the hose doesnt mean much. Conversely if yiu have a successful water test the boat should sell for more. When i sold my old boat 7 years ago i...

a carburetor shouldn't spill fuel like this, right?

Seen them both ways. i would suspect taking the top off carb and looking through the needles and seats and floats will find your issue, but on the offhand you have to much fuel pressure it can also over come he float . Did u have yhe same issue with old carb?

Water in Oil (Again) Head Scratcher

If you have not had it on the water distance from water line to the top of risers cant be the cause. If you have the factory parts manual for your boat it will tell u in the engine section if a 4.3 comes with risers. My 200 sport said 5.0 w rsr … hold your money for now pressure test cooling...

Water in Oil (Again) Head Scratcher

Two or three thoughts is the intake rotted out under the thermostat or leaking at intake to head joint. Could pressure test the cooling system to rule this out. Other thought is water coming up the exhaust did u verify the riser height is 15” above the water line? Is it possible u are getting...

    Will this fit?

The new prop u are looking at had the older style pressed in rubber hub so I believe you will need the thrust washer that fits that style prop. Don’t know the part number but would imagine a prop shop or dealer would know

Upper Gear Case Bearing was Destroyed Sterndrive. Need help with part # Merc Alpha One Gen One.

You can buy the bearing but as outlined above you will need the tools to shim it properly. Also need to disassemble and wash out the lower as metal shavings will move between them. The upper bearing was the clicking noise you heard in the running video you posted on your other thread. As...
