Anyone Have Experience With A Solas Rubex Prop??

That Solas or Michigan wheel Vortex 4 blade (18") will work nicely. I run 4 blades on my last 2 boats for exact same reasons you mention and had great luck with the Michigan vortexes on my last boat. Was a inexpensive way to cut my teeth on prop swapping and trials. You may have to play with...

Assume you are asking for how to retime the engine ? Yes but u need to make sure it is on compression stroke - both valves closed as the balancer will also align at top of exhaust stroke …

    J1171 Marine Trim Pump issue

There are two solenoids over to the left , follow the wires out of the pump motor. One solenoid will be up the other down. Jump it right at the solenoid which is likely bad. the switch will close the circuit in the solenoids to send power to the motor. Attached a couple of drawings out of merc...

Ran with missing quad ring, should I expect problems?

If you keep an eye on your drive lube and don’t run it if water gets in, reseal it if needed, drive will last for years more in fresh water. Your interior and gel coat will get roached first

    Engine Mount Installation Tool

Ok wasnt sure what your question was. Looks like you were sold part of the tool … looks like those spacers are 1/2” or so thick. Would think you could determine the thickness off mercs installation drawings. They are available on line...

    Engine Mount Installation Tool

Its in step 5 - seems like if you are installing the newer merc made 6.2 and 4.5 engines you dont need the spacers. If you are installing a 8.2 (assume GM based) or legacy engine, which I suspect is any of the older GM based 4.3, 5.7, 454 gm based engines you need the spacer... I have never...

Need some help with alpha 1 gen 1 sterndrive

I've never had to do it either. But I think hardest part is getting bearing carrier out on an older drive. Not sure if you need any Merc specific tools if just reinstalling original bearings etc @Bondo or @kenny nunez would likely know

    Bogging issue

Try taking the fuel filler cap off when this happens. By what you describe you may a have a plugged fuel tank vent eventually the tank gets under enough of a vacuum to stop letting fuel out to carb. Could also check the pick up tube some have a sock or internal screen that could get clogged...

    Gear lube reservoir

As mentioned the lube reservoir supplies the drive via the transom housing and bell housing. The hose goes down to transom, thru transom, then a hose by bellows feeds it to bellhousing and into the drive. There is an alarm that will sound if it gets low in the reservoir. Same alarm that goes off...

Need some help with alpha 1 gen 1 sterndrive

If you want plug and play and can install a drive the SEI is a good route to go. When the upper goes you should disassemble and clean the lower as metal shavings can get in to lower via the lube. Can't say if the lower is good or bad until it is torn down

1997 Mercruiser 5.7 EFI blown head gasket

I 've had several engines older than that that head gaskets were fine in. Also if you haven't owned it since new you don't know what has happened. I think with Lou's boat he had several years in between over heat and head gasket failure. Bottom line do a leak down or at least pressurize the...

better to be at the low end or top end of RPM?

I never ran one side by side. A 19” vengence was on my boat when i got it, but when i repowered from a 4.3 to 5.0 and kept the V6 drive ratio i needed more pitch… so i only ran it once but was way over reving. Sold it for $180…
