1997 Mercruiser 5.7 EFI blown head gasket

some people test the manifolds by filling with acetone for exactly that reason. It wicks into smaller cracks. Might be worth looking at the disassembled head or having it magged. I didn't want any issues when I repowered so I bought a new Barr Exhaust manifold and riser set. Not trying to spend...

    2001 Seadoo GTX DI Testing

The noise you describe is probably the thrust bearing inside the pump. The rubber grommet just goes on the front of the impeller to keep dirt out of the splines. Only other thing it might be is driveshaft seal you should be able to pullback the rubber boot where it goes through the hull and look...

    Mercrusier MC 1 outdrive

Also one advantage you have is the MC1 drive can be bolt in replaced by the newer R/MR/Alpha One Gen one drives. So theoretically you could by a new OEM MERC or SEI aftermarket drive and bolt it in.

    No start question

dwell is want you set the points to - it is the amount of time that the points are building up energy in the coil. If you changed the points and didn't set dwell I would start there. Yes if timing is off it may not run, set timing as well. this is a great video on how to tune up points...

    Mercruiser 4.3L Will Not Start

Yes you are either missing spark or fuel or compression. Would check the strength of spark with an inexpensive spark gap tester. should jump 3/8 " or more. Have you dumped gas down carb to see if it fires? if it does that would indicate spark is ok and you are missing fuel. As a sanity...

    Thrust washer…..

Merc uses the Flotorq replaceable prop hub system and many prop manufactures offer compatible designs- like Michigan hweel is XHS prop hub... You can probably dress up the thrust washer with file or emory cloth. You are correct as long as it has a good fit on thrust face of prop and doesn...

Who here would buy a boat with 1400hours on a 454 mpi?

the conventional wisdom is to not add closed cooling to a used engine as the scale inside even a fresh water engine will plug the heat exch.

    1987 4.3 205 conversion to 1998 Vortec 4.3 marine engine

None except the fuel pump. Do you at least have the wiring harness on the new engine? otherwise you will need to wire up the fuel pump through an oil pressure switch . I think michigan motorz sells a marine carter fuel pump and crimped end fuel hose for the pump to carb connection if you are...

Anyone Have Experience With A Solas Rubex Prop??

I get higher top speed with my 21" Revolution 4 than a 22" Enertia, similar WOT rpm. I suspect it is related to stern lift and with the Rev 4 being able to fully trim out with out the prop blowing out. So I get slightly higher (1-2 mph gps ) top speed. My boat is stern heavy ....

    trouble getting reverse.

You would need about 4" inches of prop pitch to keep the rpms in same ballpark. What was your current WOT rpm? As an example I repowered a 4.3 boat with 1.81 drive to a 5.0 that by the book should have had a 1.62 drive. I kept the V6 ratio and went up in pitch 2" to a 21" .Since you are going...
