    Boat carpet question.

If I didn't WANT to help I would not have replied. I have done several boat rebuilds so I do have some experience....especially with floor coverings. What's so hard about talking a picture? Help is a 2-way street. My boat has hatches. Google that and you will see what it is. I googled...

    Boat carpet question.

Me either. This site is not just about answering questions for one person, its also a source of info for others. Someone please post a pic of the floor. Also, my boats don't have lids. Maybe i might want one. What the %^$# is it?

    Boat carpet question.

Not understandable. What is a lid? Regardless, carpets are outdated because they hold water and eventually the boat rots. Use Marideck instead. Sent pics so we can figure out what you need.

I'm looking for help on mounting a transducer

Now you've given more info. If its a tiller, where will you mount the head? It doesn't technically matter which side you mount the ducer, but usually the wiring is simplified if you mount it on the same side as the head. Sounds like you don't have a battery? If the engine doesn't need one...

I'm looking for help on mounting a transducer

Boy I'd like to have his job. Its a 30 minute job and all you need is a drill. Unless the boat manufacturer installs ducers as an OEM option, I doubt that they would have a clue. Mount it half way between the keel and the chine, or half way between strakes if you have them. It should be...

I'm looking for help on mounting a transducer

Never heard of a helix so I googled it. Looks like a nice unit. If the instructions were omitted from the box, you can download them. Humminbird has the most concise and detailed instructions of any of the sonar companies, including pictures. Much more than we could type on a web site...

    Connecting a 2nd gas tank to a Mercury 40hp 4 stroke

If you have a Merc motor with a Merc tank, then just buy a Merc tank as your second one. When in use, be sure to push the vent button every time you switch tanks, to ensure that you release the pressure. Otherwise you'll be squirting gas all the time.

Looking for Opinions on Super Bowriders

I live on the Niagara River. A gazillion boats locally. That said, the availability of covered storage is very slim. The boats that enjoy those facilities are classic wooden cruisers that have long term owners that are willing to pay whatever it takes to protect their babies. I never heard...

    Outboard Painting

The 'rude in post #6 was painted with North York acrylic enamel rattle can paint. It currently costs $22.50 (CDN). The US counterpart is about 20 bucks these days. It was painted about 15 years ago and hasn't needed to be touched up yet. Of course, it has only been run in the water maybe 30...

    Outboard Painting

Beautiful job. I like the design - a one-of-a-kind. (I like your workshop too) Surely, a professional spray gun and hardened paint is the best way to go. But not everyone has the ability to do that. I find that a good enamel holds up pretty well. Mine are all kept original - paint and...

    Replacing keel roller with boat

Yes of course, there is no tongue weight since the boat is propped up. I meant tongue weight before propping. Regardless, I did that as well and the tongue would not go down by itself because the back of the boat was pushing down on the back of the trailer, which in turn pushed the front up...

    Should I purchase a 60HP 1969 Johnson hydro-electric shift outboard motor?

I agree 100%. And that's after owning 2 of the blasted things. My personal experience would indicate that they are NOT that reliable. The worst part is that repairing them are outside my wheelhouse, and finding a mechanic to work on them was nearly impossible. And that was years ago. Today...

    Outboard Painting

You can use a brush if you like. If your intention is to protect the metal, but don't care if it looks like crap, then go for it. Your problem, though, is keeping the paint on if you intend to put the engine on a boat and use it in the water. Even if you simply intend to display a motor on a...

    What's too old to consider?

A guy down the street from me bought a brand new boat. The wife didn't like boating. It sat beside the house half uncovered for 5 years with very little use. It looked like crap. Then one day I see him power polishing, with a friend inside working on the upholstery. Then they changed the...

    Question of HP

Since that's below the operating range for that motor it explains the poor hole shot. You can go up to 6000.

Should you polish a Prop or not

One year we spent a week at our usual vacation spot with the boat tied to floating docks. The water was several feet high and the main dock was under water. When I pulled the boat out my zincs were real bad and my brand new polished SS prop was not too shiny any more. I suspect a power line...

    Kicker motor

Tracker's 2021 literature shows several kicker options, and they are all extra long shaft. I don't know if the motor mount came with the kicker package, or if it was standard on the boat. What is further unknown is what they did in the 2000 model year. Performance wise, the engine can be...

    Replacing keel roller with boat

Good idea, unless there is a proper tongue weight or the rollers are not already contacting the keel. In that case, once the keel contacts the wood, the trailer tongue won't go down any more and you will not have gained any ground.

    Replacing keel roller with boat

The keel is the strongest part of the hull. If it isn't, then the boat is rotten and compromised and isn't much good anyway. That's why keel rollers are intended to support the hull , not (LOL) so you don't hit the frame (LOL). (Of course, I would place a carpet or block of wood on the jack...

    Question of HP

That's a good one. I like it. That's going into my book of "Quotes of the Day". Truth be told, the weight capacities are just guides as well. My buddy's wife insists that she has to go fishing with him ALL the time. And she's so fat she exceeds the recommendations for most every boat in...
