350 Mag MPI Fuel Pump Questions

Hi. Is this the early mpi 350 from the late 90’s or had the boat been re engined with the newer mpi ?

Mariner Mag II Oil Warning Module - bad?

Fair play. Other engines don’t seem to suffer. But these definitely do at the drive shaft. Learned the hard way. Many others have too, for sure.

    overheat mercruiser

Personal preference, but far and away the most risk comes from taking it from the muffs. I drain and make sure it’s drained. Put back together. Fill big hose off t stat until it comes back out the housing. Then do the two hoses to the manifolds until it comes out the back.

    Electric head, but no breaker

Hi. Is there a small black pull out knob or switch, somewhere on the vanity unit or wall around there ? Might be a dometic labelled switch

    Mercmonitor

Is it the merc monitor old school thing or the newer vessel view unit ?

    overheat mercruiser

Strongly recommend that you ditch the YouTube method and do what most in the know do…just fill with antifreeze at the thermostat pipe work. After draining of course

Need help to identify Perko strainer basket replacement

Hi. Not that it might help you now…but I was recently replacing the water pump on an overheated 5.7 port engine of a searay 340 shaft drive. Had the identical strainer system. Someone had done the exact same thing and thought the lid was tightened down properly. It wasn’t and didn’t have a seal...

Mariner Mag II Oil Warning Module - bad?

Hi. You could test the oil alarm certainly. By manually pushing the float switch down or shorting across its wiring. But other than that. I strongly urge you do away with that oil injection system, if you haven’t already. Then link out the alarm. Amazed it’s lasted so long, if it’s still in use...

    2001 wellcraft 270 costal powered by a mercruiser 7.4 mpi with a bravo 3. Doesn’t accelerate.

I’d think all mpi would have a limiter. You’re probably hitting that. You’d assume it can only be the coupler or the drive cone clutch is slipping…possibly caused by water in the oil perhaps

    What is she?

Defo a Shakespeare. Very familiar with them here. The ones with bow rails were a optional de-luxe thing. The same hull and moulds were used later on for a boat called a waverider mustang too. Easy to tell by square bow…high lifting strakes at the bow and the centre raised section running along...

    What is she?

They are made here in the uk. Very popular back in the day. Shakespeare made racing derived hulls and some of the larger models were serious machines. Shared some hulls with the famous Mike ring boats.
  12. Q

    What is she?

    99.9% she’s a Shakespeare 👌

    1997 Yamaha 200hp 2 stroke

How’s the shift cable and assembly at the engine ? I’d have a look at that with the engine cover off whilst it’s doing it. To see what’s happening there. See if it’s jumping out of gear.
  14. Q

    What is she?

Yeah. Quite sure it’s a Shakespeare mustang. Uk built classic speedboat.

    Depth finder

Not surprised, haha. It can’t sound through air. As you’ll know anyway.
  16. Q

    Depth finder

It may be randomly depressing the buttons and modes perhaps. Just with the installation there. But yeah. I mentioned the transducer fitting too…and that it won’t work on the trailer 😂
  17. Q

    Cavitation Burns

Likely just from the vents on the prop there. Paint is easily removed from a prop like this. But if a coincidence that’s it’s in line with the vents there.

Mercruiser 7.4L MPI Alarm won't stop

If it’s not the sensor you’ve replaced…the odds on favourites otherwise are the gear oil header tank level low or it’s sensor at least. The IAC and sw pressure sensor is common too. How’s the oil pressure ?
