    Water in coupler bell housing

The parts boat, I have no clue except possibly. That boat was so wet, and the bilge had a few inches of water standing in it when I pulled the motor. ( plug out ) I stored that boat with the motor cover over it and the mooring cover it came with, so it wasn’t flooded in my possession, but it...

    Water in coupler bell housing

This is why it’s concerning me. That’s what I thought. I pulled the starter to check on the rear main seal leak. There is grease in there as well, which doesn’t make me as nervous, but the grease could cause a seal.

    Water in coupler bell housing

How can water get into the sealed coupler bell housing on a 3.0l? My 1986 3.0L I found about 2” of water there. I pulled the starter off to investigate the oil that appears to logically be a rear main.. I winterized the engine and the block is fine. I’m going to drag another boat that is said...

    Engine swap.

You need to buy the LS3 and then all the parts to marinize it and probably use a marine cam. Crusader does use LS engines… I looked into it briefly as I have a 4.8L sitting around but the $400 4.8 would cost me about $4000 to make it run

    Mercontrol cables

I have another question relating to this… currently the 1971 control cables are hooked up to the shift linkages on the 1986 alpha one 3.0 ( valve cover mount cables )… the upper shift cable appears too long to work. Are the cable ends different? Also the throttle doesn’t seem to want to work...

    Inherited an electric shift stringer

while I’m a fan of pertronix for cars. They do not have a good track record in boats.. put a new condensor in it. Clean the points with some paper, or a file if you need to. Hook 12v up directly from the battery to the + side of the coil and see if it runs. That said. Sitting since 1996 in...

    Mercontrol cables

I have not looked. Does the older mercontrol have a neutral switch? I’ve got the wiring from the parts boat which of course does

    Trailer brake pad uneven wear

Lube the pads on the shim sliders, and the sliding pins. It’s very common for brake pads to do that which are not properly serviced

Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

I’d have yanked the coupler, housing and the front mount and sent the rest to scrap. But a locked up engine isn’t something I would keep.. as is I’m going to have a box full of dock cleats and odds and ends from the parts boat after I scrap it.

    Mercontrol cables

Fits the boats era for sure… I think I’m going to hook it up and see what happens. I think some of the problems are stemming from using the longer MC1 cable ends. It never occurred to me that the Alpha cable ends are shorter but I’m pretty sure they are. So it’s now another trip to the parts...

    Mercontrol cables

Pretty sure there is. But I need to be exact and do it without a template. I can make a template from the donor boats interior panel… but ultimately I want to go boating. I’m sure the parts are available if not a used outboard control is available which I could make work

    Mercontrol cables

Finding myself staring at my own pictures… I think I see why StarCraft used the outboard control.. that gunnel wall is fairly low and the control is mounted as far up as it can be. If I use the flush mount controls, and mount it as far up as I can, it’s still going to be a little low...

Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

Looks like I’m going to wing it and see what the engine I have does. Went to grab the other one and it was locked up tight. I could have got it for parts cheap but I don’t need junk. I probably should have for the coupler but oh well

replacement Chevy engine for volvo penta

Napa carries some stuff for boats as they do carry Sierra. But you will need to know the part numbers

    StarCraft bilge pump options

Yup. Somewhere in the 200 gph total loss without actually measuring. It’s somewhere in the 1’ of distance from the bilge to the outlets

    StarCraft bilge pump options

I prefer no leaks but expect it might leak a little… I’ll have a little under 1600 gph capacity factoring in some losses.

    StarCraft bilge pump options

That’s essentially what I did with the little boat. I just used a cutting board as it never rots and drills easy
