    Must Have items!!!

You’re lucky you still have that option. What little freshwater we have to swim has quality issues. Brackish water is full of critters, water borne bacterium, sea nettles, etc. Saltwater quality is good…but keep in mind you are no longer at the top of the food chain Getting wet on the boat...

Anyone had electrical issues caused by plotter/fish finder ? Dragonfly in particular

What is going on? Pulse generator, communications inputs (NMEA) and input power are isolated internally from each other. The only thing in common is ground.

    Why Oil Injection?

I'm all ears if someone can come up with a "simpler, fool proof" method of mixing 150 gallons of fuel than filling a dedicated 3 gallon tank full of oil....lol

    Battery question

What you describe fits the scenario of a battery dying of an internal short. My truck died the same death two summers ago

    Must Have items!!!

A pool in the back yard and a short drive to the Atlantic Beaches leaves the boat primarily for fishing and cruising purposes. Outside of all required Safety Gear and a full array of communications and guidance electronics...... Seasonally appropriate fishing Tackle - Trolling or Bottom...

    Which fuel to use?

Most the world, except US and Canada, uses RON Pretty much a moot point anymore. Modern engines can adjust ignition timing to compensate.

    Which fuel to use?

The research octane number (RON) describes the behavior of the fuel in the engine at lower temperatures and speeds, and is an attempt to simulate acceleration behavior. The motor octane number (MON) describes the behavior of the fuel in the engine at high temperatures and speeds – a...

    Stupid shake-down cruise? Lake Ontario

Those water temps are right in the zone. Wouldn’t make much of a Striper fisherman. How big a boat do you need to be safe? Sadly, we loose someone Striper fishing from a private boat every couple of years. Always the same scenario….out trolling alone without an operational man-over board...

Increasing my small boat rod spread

Me think you need a bigger boat…lol How deep are you fishing? I have a bit more space space to work with but I pull one rod off each downrigger, six boat rods and 7 rods off each planer board. Gives a spread of 42 baits spread over an area 200 feet wide x up to 25’ deep. Know a guy that...

    Stupid shake-down cruise? Lake Ontario

If your survival plan involves the USCG you’re in trouble no matter what time of year it is. SAR Readiness: Each Coast Guard unit with a SAR readiness responsibility shall have a suitable SAR resource ready to proceed within 30 minutes of notification of a distress. SAR Mission Response...

If you raise a rain barrel 10 feet high, and attach a garden hose what kind of pressure can you expect from gravity alone.

In reality, you have zero (0) pressure at the end of an open ended hose dumping to atmosphere. The “pressure” you feel is the velocity of the water exiting the hose.

    Clear hose

You will have no problem if it’s a Polyurethane braided hose. I wouldn’t trust the cheap pvc stuff that you find at most big box stores

Is it worth getting a VHF with AIS in it?

From the price you’re quoting you must be looking at both broadcast and receive AIS. Boating in busy shipping area, it’s nice to not need to run the radar to keep watch over my shoulder, but as a competitive angler, I have no interest in broadcasting my position to the world Running a Garmin...

What type transom straps do you prefer

Do yourself a favor and go with a cargo strap over those sold as “gunwale” straps Got my strap from a trucker who came to pick up some equipment we were shipping. Just happened to leave one on the dock when he left.;) Much better construction with much higher load capabilities. I can bow the...

    Battery Options

Never heard of such a thing. Would be interested in seeing any tech articles that support the claim Been using deep cycles to start and run my 200 hp outboard for years. Got 10 years off my last set of batteries.

    AC radiant power extraction

The input power to the unit has nothing to do with refrigeration tonnage. Seriously doubt you’re using 10A while running either. While you have a high inrush current to charge the starting capacitors, you need very little current to run the compressor and fan. Split systems are a pain. I...
