    Is AARP worth it???

What type transom straps do you prefer

Switched to 3” gunwale strap after having a transom strap let go when I cut a curve pulling out of a parking lot

    Lost an old buddy :(

Sorry for your loss…lost a friend to throat cancer 4 years ago and have another going on 5 years in remission. Both worked with radiation their entire careers like myself. Knock on wood…. You had me going with “old buddy” until you mentioned 5 years. Have known most of my “old buddies” going...

    Which fuel to use?

I think you’re over estimating fuel usage by a good bit I’m running a bigger, heavier boat (Grady White 226) with less efficient 2 stroke engine technology. Gets roughly 1 kM/L at 27 kts in good conditions. Fuel usage can double when things get sloppy Working backwards from your estimated...

    Fuel use meter?

Somebody renting a boat for an hour or two for a boat ride isn't going out to battle wind and waves for an afternoon. A valid point if calculating actual consumption, but your not. Your calculating worst case consumption to come up with a flat rate fee to add to your hourly rate.

    Fuel use meter?

From a practical standpoint you don't want to be haggling with customers over fuel usage after the fact. Your best bet is to include a fixed rate of consumption into your hourly rental fee. Charge fuel at the rate of 10% of rated horsepower per hour of use. One (1) hour rental of a 100 HP...

    Which fuel to use?

Budgeting and boating are never a good fit...lol If nothing else it's the incidentals that kill you. The last three boat's I bought necessitated vehicle upgrades shortly there after. What rate of fuel burn have you planned for? Just cruising (27 kts.), I'm pretty consistent burning 1kM/L of...

    Winter fishing

Ran an I/O in my early years of Striper fishing. Late December into January was prime fishing season. Water temps 3 to 5 degrees. Air temp -3 to -7 degrees. Just opened the block drains at the ramp and let it drain on the 1.2 hour drive home. FWIW: Motor was still “warm” to the touch by the...

    Mild Winter

Don't think so.......don't have much faith in weather "people" but migratory critters are rarely if ever wrong. Migratory fish and birds have been on the move for a couple of weeks. Must have been 200 geese on the back corn field last week.

    Titan/Dico actuator model 10

If it's like every other actuator I've ever used, there is a wire/chain connected to the lever that gets attached to the hitch to actuator the lever in case of a "Break Away"

    Fuel use meter?

There is no cheap way around the situation. With so many different engine manufacturers involved, you would probably be better off installing a third party, in-line NMEA 2000 Fuel Flow sensor which could then feed any NMEA 2000 Certified Display to process and store the flow and consumption...

    Trailer surge brakes

What your saying is correct about "Force" available at the actuator, but it does not address the displacement of the master cylinder which plays a pivotal role in the conversion of Force to Pressure. My actuator (foot print) is available in #6,600, #7,0000 and #7,500 rated units. Same fit...

Check valve / recirculation replacements? loopers and crossflows

As you have found, Chem-dip is not going to clean brass and stainless very well. You need alkalinity (pH 1) to clean brass and stainless. Diluted sulfuric acid works very well. As do a number of soak cleaners developed specifically for the plating industry

    Trailer surge brakes

My first thoughts…….unless you replaced the brake actuator with larger, higher output model you’ve decreased your braking capacity 20% or more going from 10” to 12” drum brakes. I say “or more” because 20% only takes into account the increased torque (F= T x R) from the radius change. Don't...

U/V light to control mold etc in basement, attic?

Not a fan of UV cleaners in any shape, form or function Worked as a janitor in a Research laboratory while in high school. They used UV lighting to sterilize the room when not in use. Long story short, stripped and buffed the floor in a lab one night. For whatever reason, the UV lighting...

What percentage of value of motor do you replace? How much to spend on parts motor?

The major highway I take to work has been shut down twice in the past month. Both incidences involved tractor trailer fires. Both fires where limited to a small portion of the trailer. The fire last week burned a 2 ft. wide section of the trailer thru both sides and the roof leaving nothing...
