Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

1989 Maxum is also Bayliners cousin. Personally I would assess the cost and weigh the dump fee and selling trailer to recover your cost.. $10-20k into a boat that is 34 years old doesn’t make that much sense when you could save the same money. and buy a newer boat in the 2-3 years of nights...

Mariner 4 Motor and Battery Question

You can’t go wrong with a Minn Kota Endura C2 for a pool toy boat. There not much money

    2003 Trophy 200 w/150hp

Everything online says 150hp rating so it should be as good as it can be. If the decal on the boat itself is higher, if 150hp is within 75% of that your good to go. If it’s 50% or under your going to notice

    3.0 MPI distributor? Specs needed

I actually haven’t. I got side tracked. I’ll have to try again. I’ve been doing some bodywork on the cab lately

Water keeps filling boat cover, please help!

I have a 1971 Offshore V18 that has to sit outside ( Holiday 14 gets inside storage ) . I built a triangle support system that sits ontop of the gunnels, and kind of locks in. Secured with a few zip ties and the cover itself. I have supports that go to the floor as well. It never collects anything

1988 Bayliner Capri 2.3 ford engine

DIY. Professional would be that plus a crap ton of labor at $100 plus per hour. It would be probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 hours, so $10k in labor give or take on the low end

    1984 Bayliner Ski with 94 Merc Black Max 150HP 2.5 V6 Outboard

2003 may be a project, it may not. A safe bet is to avoid a glass boat and get a nice tin boat. Even a later fish and ski from sylvan or StarCraft/smokercraft or even an older Bluefin. You will find one in your price range. Tin boats eliminate 90% of the structural wood. The only remaining wood...

    Top speed?

Smokercraft rated it for 90Hp so yes it’s under powered by nearly 50%. You may see 30mph. That 4 stroke will be smooth though

    Mercruiser 215E

I doubt you will find parts, if ever. It was only used by very few manufacturers in a very short time frame. You can convert the boat to R/MR/ Alpha pretty easily.

    3.0 MPI distributor? Specs needed

I’ve actually thought about using the cam sensor for an older 2.3L Ford. The earlier ones basically had it as a drop In distributor but it was only a sensor. Sniper could operate off such signal. I’m not sure how much it would take to make it work though

    3.0 MPI distributor? Specs needed

True. I knew that an MSD box will trigger on points. Using the white wire if I recall correctly. I’ve only ever set them up with Duraspark distributors. A 6-BTM and an automotive distributor of some sort is probably what I should do.

    3.0 MPI distributor? Specs needed

I want electronic or at least solid state ignition. I know the points are perfectly fine in general, but i don’t want point bounce/ inaccuracy under boost. So a pertronix kit is something I would install in a points dizzy. The other crazy thought is, the Delco Voyager limits the advance to 23*...

    3.0 MPI distributor? Specs needed

So the 6cyl ones are available everywhere for not a lot of money. I wonder if there is a benefit to getting a rebuilt vs used distributor

    3.0 MPI distributor? Specs needed

I’ll have to check it out. I forgot to mention that nobody local except one place can get the cardone distributor. Cardone lists it as available to order but it comes up as rebuild only at the parts stores. There is one part store that is quite a bit more expensive but has a lot of odd parts...

    3.0 MPI distributor? Specs needed

The 4cyl cap would fit the 6cyl body if I swapped the shaft? I was thinking along the lines of swapping the vac advance stuff. If I convert to an MSD 6 BTM, than I can run the Sniper for just fuel and it’ll work.

    3.0 MPI distributor? Specs needed

Unfortunately the engines still stuck in the boat, which is wrapped for storage

That’s an interesting thought. It is a Delco distributor after all

    3.0 MPI distributor? Specs needed

I remember hearing about Tom’s years ago. That may be the way to go if nothing pans out.. I do have the original points marine distributor to build a new one from. If that’s the way to go. Edit. I meant to say Dave’s Small body HEI
