    Who didn't winterize??

I think 2 years ago the great Texas freeze up We northerners are used to it Ted! It seems that in the Northeast winter takes a while to get started but once it does, it hits with a vengeance usually after the holidays, not before or even worse, during!

2006 Q6 tahoe Trailer brakes replacement parts?

I think parts that used to be labeled Tie Down are being labeled Dexter, you can see this with brake actuators, for example the previously labeled Tie Down 6600 lb actuator is now labled Dexter but is obviously the same unit...

    Who didn't winterize??

Just go out and drain it....better than a light bulb in the bilge if the power goes out. Remember a GM V6 holds about 2.5-3 gallons of water, the V8s a bit more, 3.5-4, each manifold about a half gallon depending on design. Drain it & poke those holes. Be sure to disconnect the big J hose...

2006 Q6 tahoe Trailer brakes replacement parts?

Drum brake wheel cylinders are pretty much all the same, the price went up but the are still pretty cheap. Now if you want to replace the whole brake backing plate, you need to know if you have a 5 lug hub (10" brakes) or a 6 lug hub (12" brakes) the wheel cyls for both are the same. It is...

    Winterization Question

The general rule is always get all the water out first, adding antifreeze is really just for corrosion protection. If you don't take shortcuts, you probably won't have trouble!

Hello all, I want to install a remote oil filter mount for my 4.3 V6, is it neccessary to replace the filter mount bypass valve?

That makes sense; I wonder how many people install these & don’t know that. Also I wonder if Merc & Volvo install the higher PSI valve on their remote set ups? It would be interesting if the kits sold by Mercruiser mention this in the instructions.

Hello all, I want to install a remote oil filter mount for my 4.3 V6, is it neccessary to replace the filter mount bypass valve?

Thanks Scott for the info, I'm not sure why the guys at MM said you don't have to change it seeing as how they are selling engines set up this way. It just pulls out and is a press fit?

Hello all, I want to install a remote oil filter mount for my 4.3 V6, is it neccessary to replace the filter mount bypass valve?

Also the ones I see listed like at Summit Racing and others list applications for big blocks, are these all the same and do they all fit the small block applications as well?

Hello all, I want to install a remote oil filter mount for my 4.3 V6, is it neccessary to replace the filter mount bypass valve?

Ok getting tired of pulling the rear seats out to do the oil change on my old boat. I found that Michigan Motorz puts together an oil filter kit that works with the Volvo style manifolds I have on my 4.3. I asked them if it is necessary to change the oil filter bypass valve with a higher rated...

    Sea Ray engine replacement

Fel Pro sells a kit for the pre-vortec engines that includes the head gaskets, intake gaskets and distributor gasket. For the Vortec I don't think they actually have a kit, but the HGs I believe are the same, the intake gaskets are different.

Can you change from welded to bolted?

That or find a similar size used trailer in better shape. The way the original welds were done looks questionable to me; all that weight is concentrated in a small area. The great majority of galvanized trailers are box section not C channel and I think box section is naturally more rigid.

Can you change from welded to bolted?

Here you can see the brackets that Load Rite uses on their box section galvanized trailers. This one is a '94 and the steel is in great shape, but my boat lives on a mooring so it has only gone in salt about 2-4 times per year over the 20 years I've owned it.

Can you change from welded to bolted?

This is the type of bracket they used with boxed frames

Ah saw that it was rebuilt; so the shop must have boiled out the block & heads

Might want to flush the block you never know what you’ll find with raw water cooled engines used in salt water. When I replaced the heads a few years ago I could see the block cooling passages were rusty with surface rust but not clogged .

Can you change from welded to bolted?

The problem with doing that is finding a bolt on crossmember bracket that matches up to the frame that you have (C channel), not saying it can’t be done. I bought some new brackets for my Load Rite so that I could lower the crossmembers to get the boat lower on the roller trailer.

    Overheating at 30mph

Remember if you had rusted up exhaust components unless you flow tested them off the engine with a hose and verified that they flow the same; you should have replaced both manifolds. If the one you didn’t replace is partly clogged most of the water will go out the other side and the clogged side...

    Ford 302 pinging

What octane fuel are you using? While some manufacturers say 87 is ok, I have never run less that 89 in my 4.3 4bbl, and at our gas docks all they sell is 93. Pinging & detonation are things to be avoided at all costs in marine inboards. OMC put a sticker in the flame arrestor stating that 89...
