    Boat painting

Epoxy is a mechanical bond, etch primer is a chemical bond I would call the company and make sure their product application is suitable for marine environment

    Finger lakes region canal trip

I’d like to venture all the way up there. Looks like that launch next to montezuma is my launch point. I’ve saved the address. I’m going to have to get navigation maps for my phone. My garmin Stryker 4 can only drop a pin which works for lakes. Looks like there’s a cool old aqueduct that’s not...

    Finger lakes region canal trip

I’ve been on Seneca many times, but never farther up the lake than Geneva itself. Never ventured onto the river from there. I thought there was a lock right there, to get onto the canal, which is why I was discounting it being only a weekend trip. My dad lives in Ovid right down the road from...

    Finger lakes region canal trip

My wife and I are planning a trip in a few weeks to the canals in the finger lakes region. I’ll only have a weekend. Trying to figure out where I should launch for the nicest time. I haven’t looked at the map in a while but I remember port Byron launch being able to get to the little lake on...

    I have a 9.5 sport twin 1972

If you have the time, the parts are cheap and plentiful… a person in the industry doesn’t have time to work on antiques nor could they stand behind a repair due to so many variables. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth fixing

Burning ~3 quarts of oil between changes

I would put 20w50 in it. I would be the guy that put a 4.8 or 5.3 LS engine in it with a standalone controller. Slight bit of work but it drops in with conversion mounts

    wheel bearings for Cox trailer

There’s a few common bearing hub assemblies. You could buy the ones that it might be and return the ones that don’t fit. You would only need to buy a few. Walmart, tractor supply or pretty much any auto parts store will have them on the shelf, so it’s not out of the way to do such a thing

I changed my lower end your oil on my Evinrude 18 hp guy at AutoZone said that should work??? making sure

I wouldn’t. It contains limited slip additives. Marine oil can be skipped if you have a good sealed out drive. If you so choose to, for whatever reason. Marine oil has emulsifiers that will hold water in suspension with oil. It’s good insurance to just use marine gear oil in the correct...

1988 Bayliner Capri with a 2.3L OMC Ford cobra

Yup. If you loose cooling and blow your head gasket and destroy the manifold you will wish you had

    1968 22ft Crichfield

The outdrive and engine are both obsolete. That 3.8 is a Buick that was only used in marine applications for a couple years. An old sea ray or something would be worth converting to mercruiser and restoring, but that boat really has no style that sets it apart. You will never recover any money...

    Identify this motor?

They are basically 1.5hp. Usually rated at 3hp but they really only put out 1.5. Retail is about $150. I have a water cooled version and it runs great. Except the clutch burnt out the third time in the water. If it runs and the prop spins you can make it back to the dock. But I wouldn’t rely on it

    Cable pulley system?

Unless you’re salvaging an old cable drum system, a new wheel and drum is going to cost $150 alone. Glen L sells them still but they are very much a specialty item. The way they work is a little more than a pulley. It’s almost threaded if you will

    Cable pulley system?

Transom mount steering tube will take place of the tilt tube. The cable drum will work but I bet you don’t have space for it

2001 Reinell 190 with Ford motor and OMC outdrive

I wonder if it’s an older boat re titled as a 2001. My 1966 StarCraft holiday is titled as a 1985 with a replacement NY HIN

2001 Reinell 190 with Ford motor and OMC outdrive

contact reinell and see if that year was composit construction to any extent. A full OMC swap is suspect. But a later OMC would basically be a Volvo SX. Depends but I wouldn’t run if the bones were good enough.. but if it’s not composite to any extent, it’s run worthy

1988 Four winns 180 horizon, were these OMC or Mercruisers

Take a look at the gauges. My 86 Freedom 160 has Mercury marine gauges and I’m 90% sure they are original.. Fwiw I bought my rotten parts boat ( the freedom 160 ) because it has a mint running 3.0l and alpha one. Which will be a good replacement for the MC1 and 2.5L in my 72 StarCraft… swaps...

1988 Four winns 180 horizon, were these OMC or Mercruisers

4 winns of the time was Brunswick I think by that time which mercury was/ is a part of. I have an 86 Freedom 160 as a parts boat and it’s a 3.0 mercruiser. Few were OMC but i think older
