    4.3 Carb vs 5.7 Carb

In a word no they are not the same carbs. Even if they were both 2 bbl carbs they would have different jetting and possibly the venturi cluster is different. I went through the same exercise when I did a 4.3=>5.0 swap and got a Edlebrock 1409 and it works great, would recommend you do the...

    New Carb conversion issues 5.7

starting with starter fluid then dying would be indicative of fuel supply issue. Would have him do his work with the oil pressure switch then test for fuel supply when cranking. 1the eddy 1406 is not a marine rated carb, using an automotive carb in a marine application can create fire and...

Mercruiser Engine ID - No serial number

Judging but what you have there probably mid to late 90's at some point they switched back to a stamped valve cover from the cast one. Having a mercarb vs TKS, assuming carb is original, would likely put it pre 2008 or so when the mercarb came out (could be of on the year). Cast aluminum cover...

Mercruiser Engine ID - No serial number

It doesn't match up to a MC serial number. I assume you were looking for the engine number to match up the throttle linkage issue in your other thread? If so you may have an issue with how the later motors routed the throttle cable. If you look at the photo I posted of my 91 3.0 you can see the...

    Mercruiser 140 winterization.

years ago my grandfather told me a story of how he used to store his outboards in his unheated shed… went out in the spring picked the outboard up and the gear case housing fell apart in pieces. Had water in gear oil split the casting during the winter. he was showing me ( i was about 14) how...

Mercruiser Engine ID - No serial number

That is a much newer cast valve cover with ribs on it. I had a similar valve cover on my 1991 vintage 3.0. So likely you have a newer 3.0/135 hp in there, which is not a problem, but is likely why you are missing the engine number ...might be a non Mecruiser replacement long block which again is...

    Mercruiser 140 winterization.

You basically have it. SD is correct The large J hose can trap water. For many years i mistakenly never took mine off only the drain plugs never had an issue but i did find ice in it one spring when i did an early summarization, so water can freeze and damage circ pump. no other trap cavities...

    Ford 302 pinging

no you need to pump the throttle to set the choke (close it), advancing it in a boat works like the fast idle cam on a automotive application does. the combo of coke closed (is yours adjusted right) and slightly open throttle pulls more fuel in to richen the mixture. If you had fuel...

    Rainbow Exhaust 5.7 Mercruiser

that looks more like gear oil than gas to me. I would check your drive for water intrusion and look at remote oil reservoir lines up in transom housing Are you loosing gear oil volume - doesnt take much. Had a visually identical seen on my jetski a few years back was thinking it was too much...

Can a old mercruiser motor run very well with following pressures?

Get it up to temp and it will be higher. Given age of engine it likely sat so may need to free up some rings and valves once it gets going. May want to soak cylinders with marvel mystery oil and use merc pwoer tune or other top engine cleaner to get carbon out once it is running. Bottom line...

    Ford 302 pinging

Certainly understandable, you want to get it to the point where you mostly turn it on and use it vs working on it. Personally would hold off and get a 4 bbl as the rochester if jetted correctly should work fine. Unless there is something wrong with it you wont see any gain Just getting a new 2...

Can a old mercruiser motor run very well with following pressures?

125 is a bit low but would expect it to run ok. might need valve work or rocker adjustment on the cylinder that is low whats the history on it

    Priming a Rebuild Engine

Sounds like you were able to index the drive shaft back in the oil pump, if so i would drop the distributor in there remove spark plugs bump it on starter to ensure oil is moving up to rockers and building pressure. If so then you should be good to go.
