    Engine swop ? about Timing

you may want to read this thread - guy went to a delco est and had lower total advance and was down on power. Seems the older piston and head combo may need more advance than the delco est has- I think is limited to about 24 total...

    alpha 1 gen 2, 3.0 outdrive on 4.3

If you look in sea rays owners resources you will find the following info - for prop chart https://owners-resources.searayweb.com/propeller-charts-files/2006%20Sport%20Boat%20Sport%20Cruiser%20Prop%20Chart.pdf If yours is 190 hp carb vs the 220 hp mpi - and came with a 1.81 with a 23" prop, so...

Can you change from welded to bolted?

Didn't catch that thanks. Depending on use yeah prob wouldn't fix it either.

Can you change from welded to bolted?

What is the age of the trailer - is it aluminum or galvanized? what's the condition of tires brakes wheel bearings etc - what else do you have to repair? How much are the cross members? Would figure $100-125 each. While you could bolt them up I cant imagine it costing much to have them welded...

    alpha 1 gen 2, 3.0 outdrive on 4.3

What size boat is it in? If, if the boat had acceptable performance with say a 17" or 19" prop, then you could step up to a 19" or 21" and it would probably work just fine. If it is a smaller boat, like two of my neighbors have (tahoe Q5) w a 4.3 and a 1.81 drive that needs a 23" to keep rpms...

    Engine swop ? about Timing

I would match the intial (in base mode) and total timing of what it should have been on the 88 engine. Thinking match the timing curve for the head you are using. Of course when you mix and match components some trial and error may be needed…it is normal when you take it out of base mode that it...

    Ignition sensor help

Are the bullet connectors male and female ? I think the oem ones are so they cant be mixed up. This is shown in this photo of an oem sensor https://www.michiganmotorz.com/thunderbolt-ignition-sensor-kit-v6-v8 if you are not in a rush i would return it and get an oem sensor

    Ford 302 pinging

the difference between 8 and 10 intital timing wont be that significant, would suspect that is a red herring and something else is going on. Given what you saw in the fuel tank would think poping top on carb would be in the nest step

    Ford 302 pinging

Would think either rebuild or replace the carb or go back to 8 deg BTDC

    Ford 302 pinging

So no more pinging? You had verified fuel contamination and may have to clean out the carb would be my first thought (unless you did clean it already) other thought is to watch with a timing light see if things advance or if there is a miss. On my Edlebrock I had a little bit of play in the...

    Ford 302 with mc-1 outdrive

Prop hub or coupler ? although I dont think they would reset...are you using the older style pressed in prop hub? possible it kicked out of gear. I don't have enough experience to tell you how to diagnose if the drive isn't staying in gear under load, some others on here do...

    Gimbal bearing/bellows?

I would remove the drive and inspect the gimbal on u joints. Usually the gimbal growls less when worn if drive shaft is straighter vs up? I wonder if something is rubbing or u joints have a bad spot. when u say cost to replace do u mean parts or taking it and having the repair done. replacing...

    Spark plug part number?

Ok so that looks like it was a partial engine/extended long block vs a complete bobtail that has the 1G***** serial
  15. Scott06

    What is this?

Agreed - 300 hp and looks like it is for an alpha not a bravo as there is no belt driven seawater pump
  16. Scott06

    Spark plug part number?

Appreciate that cause I was coming up with a 1G**** and up when looking up his engine.

    Spark plug part number?

When i type that serial in the parts look up it came up as invalid. Just helpful to have for ordering parts Right above the starter there will be a tag riveted to the block that will have the serial number. On merc remans it will also have the machining specs for overbore and bearing machining...

    Spark plug part number?

I think your reman engine number is incorrect or missing a letter your plug is correct and looks to be oem choice #17 in parts breakdown https://www.marineengine.com/parts/mercruiser-sterndrive-parts/43l-gen-4bbl-reman/1g400000-up/distributor-and-ignition-components you can also use ac delco...

    4.3 Carb vs 5.7 Carb

i believe so look on pg 2 of the install manual from edlebrock https://edelbrock-instructions-v1.s3.amazonaws.com/edelbrock/1409.pdf

    4.3 Carb vs 5.7 Carb

Summit Racing has them (1409) in stock. Mecruiser part number 805359T throttle bracket will work with the 1409 as the 2 bbl carb bracket will not. Makes a nice clean install of throttle bracket
