    Most or all of the 4.3 gxi I’ve ever seen, aren’t tbi. They also have the flat cap diz cap. I’ll stand corrected if it is. But it sure looks like an older red coloured tbi:efi gli or similar thing.

    Tend to agree with you there. No real reason I can think of. Despite likely not it being long enough to overheat in reality. But not sure I’d run it for that long either.

    No. You’ll be fine. But as suggested above. Not too long. If you are in the salt…always a good idea to start them dry on the slipway to expel any water sitting in there before you flush at home or similar with fresh.

    Always start engine first. Then water on. Stop water…then engine off. Wouldn’t run them for too long, or too frequently, out the water. Not great for them.

    I think what’s happened is that the engine has stopped (due to an electrical issue or pulled safety lanyard) and the noise you heard would be the prop still turning as you slowed down. Makes a hell of a clatter when it does this. That’s where my money is. Hope I’m right.

    In reverse…your prop won’t lock clockwise. It will turn clockwise and make almost a ratchet noise. It will lock anti-clockwise in reverse.

    was you won’t get too much better than 9% with an ally prop and that kind of speeds. That will be a theoretical speed just using maths.

    Hi. I use the Mercury calculator You’ll need; Speed at full throttle in gps Rpm at full throttle Gear ratio Current prop pitch A real performance hull with power can achieve 2-4% slip, well propped. Average to aim for would be 7-10% generally. Picture of mine below

    Make sure that cap is not the issue. If it’s anything like my newer merc. It’s a flush port. I’d think that needs to be not open.

    Likewise. I always have one for the top up required after the first couple of outings, after servicing.
