New valve cover gaskets and still leaking V6 4.3

That’s a good way to tell if they are warped. Question for those more experienced than I, can you change the plastic ones for the old style tin covers? Mine have NEVER leaked!

Mercruiser 4.3 EFI water intrusion issues

Agree with all of the above. I’m in the same salt water boating areas as you on the Long Island side of the Sound… I had a similar problem past overheat followed by blown head gaskets & water in 2 cyls & oil. Got the water out & changed oil while the boat was still on the mooring and had it...

Intake manifold gasket replacement advice and tips

you lay a mechanic's straightedge across the sealing surfaces and see what's the biggest feeler gauge you can slide in, no more than .003"

How hot is "too hot" for Mercruiser 454 mag temp?

200 degrees is definitely too hot for a raw water cooled system because they are not pressurized and you can get localized boiling in the hotter parts of the cooling system. The stat ratings vary from 140* to 160* depending on the model. If you have a 160 they will run from 160-175 or so. I...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

Let’s really hope that whoever installs the fast chargers on those docks knows what they are doing….we know what happens when they don’t…. For the majority of boaters on Long Island where I am who are on moorings or on docks without shore power it WILL NOT work….solar? Ok to keep batteries...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

Electric boats like EVs will only work for that segment of the population that has a dock with shore power. Totally impractical for thousands of moored boats in harbors around the world. The same way EVs won’t work for city dwellers who live in apartments & condominiums. Still some people just...

5.7 Vortec Runs Great On Land but Bogs Under Load in Water

That’s true then on older boats you have Quadrajets which are totally different from those 2.

I don’t think that’s a marine carb. For your engine it would be an Edelbrock 1409….

1986 4.3 Cracked Intake Manifold - please help with recommendations for 4 barrel combo

But the manifold is for the old style heads. Vortec uses only 8 bolts for the intake but pre Vortec uses 12. That manifold while it is for your heads, may not work on the OMC you have because the stat housing is shifted to the port side & might interfere with the high mounted alternator that OMC...

Those are Vortec heads but they are bare heads no valves installed.

    Flushing Muffs

What I found with the dual inlet ones that look like they SHOULD work great is that the rubber used is too stiff for it to flex to the shape of the lower unit. They would work better if the cups were circular and made of softer rubber. The Merc/Quicksilver ones work great. Never had a hot...

1995 Stingray 4.3L Mercruiser No Start

When you remove the old filter check the mounting pad you may see some oxidation on the aluminum mount pad. That is what causes some of these to lock up & be really hard to remove. You can clean it up with some fine sandpaper. Lube both the pad & rubber gasket with motor oil and fill the filter...

Volvo Penta 4.3GL-D Tapping Noise Videos attached

That does sound like it could be valve train related, I would get a mechanics stethoscope so you can accurately localize it. If I recall the valve train on the later 4.3s are not adjustable like in the older ones like mine where you’re not adjusting valve lash per se but rather adjusting the...

Two wildly different compression readings, why? On in around 60 and on around 200?

Well the low one could be a valve hanging open or bad rings….the high one could be water in a cyl….

How Much Voltage Drop Is Too Much?

I had that same problem with my ‘88 Four Winns. Cleaned all the connections etc. Thought it might be inadequate grounding & tried running an extra ground from the fuse box back to the engine ground but that didn’t affect it. What did was adding a supplemental power lead from the battery switch...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

That’s what I’ve always said, they’re fine until you have to do some internal engine repairs and then because of parts cost, complexity and aluminum corrosion it’s not as easy as repairing an old school Chevrolet small block. So modern OBs are fine if you buy new or like 3-5 years old then here...
