    Cannot Get Dust Cap On!!!

Call Eastern Marine in Newark Delaware and ask which brand are good and order enough for your hubs from them. They are good for customer service. Also inspect the inside of the flange on your hubs, is there a burr or surface that isn’t machined right?

1978 5.7l pre-alpha with alpha gen 1 drive over heating

Chevy small blocks are easy to take apart & repair but you have to know what you’re starting with. Might want to line up a machine shop to check out the heads if you do wind up taking it apart based on testing

1986 4.3 Cracked Intake Manifold - please help with recommendations for 4 barrel combo

You can also find used GM cast iron intakes on eBay, I picked one for my old 4.3 because I thought it would have rusted through by now but it’s still good! I do check it every year.

1978 5.7l pre-alpha with alpha gen 1 drive over heating

You might want to investigate further there are many causes of low compression. Could be valves not seating due to leaks from the manifold to elbow gasket, or worn rings. To further investigate leaky head gaskets replace the stat housing to ex manifolds hose with clear hose. Run the boat in the...

    Easiest to crank manual winch

I have a 2 speed for my ‘88 Four Winns that is about 4,000 lbs. makes it much easier but I have a roller trailer which is easier still than a bunk. My brothers boat is about the same size on a bunk and it’s much harder to winch even with the 2 speed

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

It all makes you wonder what would have been if BRP came out with a 4 stroke outboard for the Evinrude line back when Yamaha & Mercury were changing over…

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

I don’t think the 2 sets of gears are necessarily a problem because what causes problems with that set up in I/Os is the bellows and lack of maintenance & need to pull the drive each season. The other potential advantage is the horizontal crankshaft design is likely to have much less thrust...

Risers - think I caught this just in time?

Not sure what Merc did when the Vortec V6 came out (they used that dreadful one piece system) but I know that V/P changed the shape of the alu down pipes to a sharper angle and installed one way check valves in the elbows to break the vacuum formed in the exhaust...they let air in under vacuum...

https://www.manitoupontoonboats.com/us/en/discover-manitou/advantages/rotax.html Interesting, it is a low profile outboard with a horizontal crankshaft design, appears to be a DI 2 stroke.

What are good internet places to get vintage Evinrude parts?

I think Sea Way marine bought up a bunch of OMC stuff after the bankruptcy. NLA marine appears to get stuff from boats parted out in fresh water regions.

Risers - think I caught this just in time?

Interesting I never had that problem with my pre Vortec. Did the camshaft profile change that much when they went the Vortec cyl heads?

    Battery discharge. ...normal?

I think you have a parasitic draw in that a module is not going to sleep as it should. Even if you leave the battery switch on it should not go dead in a week’s time. I would take it to the dealer while it’s still under warrantee to investigate this. The auto bilge function should be directly...

What are good internet places to get vintage Evinrude parts?

NLA parts are not going to be found from most suppliers like Sierra et al, you need sources that dismantle old boats/engines and sell off what is still usable.
