I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Progress of another sort today... Got the grass cut for the last time this year! Posted some pix over in the Dockside Chat forum Cold Winter Ahead thread. And I started gathering materials and making preparations to get back to work on the Kingfisher Phase 1a tomorrow! Plus that brand new...

Going to be Cold this Winter

Well, I got outside early this morning and replaced the stripped starter gear on my tractor. I have a love/hate relationship with that machine. When it's running right it's a powerful beast. But it strips the starter gear if you just look at it funny. This time I not only got the...

    Starcraft on C-list/ebay!

Well guys, this one broke my heart last night! I'd emailed the seller earlier in the week and got more information. All sounded good. So the plan was to leave here tonight after my wife got home from work and make a road trip to go check it out. Part of the fun of the trip was so that my...

    Aluminum boat project

Here's how I did the sheet foam. It's cheap and available from the big home improvement stores. Completely waterproof too.

I'm not seeing it, can you be more specific?

1974 Holiday 16 foot The Beginning

I think this is the standard pattern nowadays, at least for a 50hp outboard. Dunno when it first appeared though so it may not apply for older motors. Someone else can chime in and give more info I'm sure. You could always install a jack plate to the transom and then whatever motor you use...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Prop looks good. Thought it might be stainless but I think it's actually polished aluminum. Dunno. Guess I could pull it off and see if it's fairly heavy but I don't wanna right now! :biggrin-new:

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

The steering cable works smoothly. Shifted the motor in and out of gear too. Seems to be smooth and okay thus far. Good news, that! I'll pull the pair of seat bases off and sell those on c-list along with the posts. That'll bring a few more bucks too. ;)

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Okay, I got the trolling motor off the boat. Cleaned up the wire ends and connected it to my truck battery. Nothing. Whanged on the steel bottom cover plate. Still nothing. I didn't feel like messing with it anymore so texted the kid from last night and he bought it from me for twenty bucks...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

The boat was sitting in the shade this morning and even 2 hours after sunup it's still covered with dew. So I just moved it into the sunshine so that it can dry out. Here's the story... Saw an ad on craigslist yesterday morning for this old bass boat with motor and trailer for $600. Seller...

What size starting battery do I need?

Just picked up a 1985 Mercury 50HP four cylinder with power tilt and trim. I'll be using a 2 battery system in my fishing boat and the cranking battery will only be used to start the motor and for the nav lights. The Mercury engine will only charge the starting battery. I'll have a deep cycle...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

More pix of the donor taken this morning in the fog of dawn. When the dew dries I'll go out and move the boat to a better spot and start exploring it even more.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Well, we got the cup holders all installed today. And rerouted the depth finder wiring and hooked that up; works okay so far! Sliced off the expanding foam level with the deck in the area that I did last night. Am hoping my wife will have time to spray the rest of the boat tonight or...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Well, we got out there a bit later than I wanted to this evening but we did make a little bit of progress. And learned a couple lessons. Installed 2 cup holders and will put the other two in tomorrow. Also started putting the spray foam into place. Got part of it done but it was getting...

Looked at a rare Islander project boat yesterday

It's an 18' 10" shorty V hull. At a distance it looked fine, natch. But it was completely stripped. The seller stated that he'd saved it from being scrapped right at the scrap yard. Everything had been removed including many of the hull rivets. The gunwales were off and bent up, as was...

For some odd reason they just don't seem interested in tubing or skiing and such.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

One thing that became very apparent yesterday was that the boat needs drink holders. On our prior two outings it was less important because we were basically on shakedown cruises and checking out the overall concept of the boat. But yesterday was about fishing and functionality. And soda...
