Do you use non ethanol gas ?

And as far as E10 I haven’t really had a problem with it in the boat (4.3 4bbl Quadrajet) outboard (Suzuki DF 2.5) and 3 four stroke & 5 two stroke yard engines. The ones with bowl style carbs I do drain when stored. The oldest 2 stroke is a 25 year old Toro snowblower with a Suzuki 2 stroke and...

Do you use non ethanol gas ?

A shortage to most is a lack of available supply due to various causes. Now, as in 1973/4 and 1979 there is no true shortage there was then and is now a politically caused decrease in supply. Everything that was done in this country to avoid a repeat of 1973/4 and 1979 & the ensuing years of...

    Trailer Leafsprings Bottoming Out

My Load Rite & every other LR and Venture trailer I have ever seen is the same. When I changed the first axle years ago I had the same though as what you’re saying yet that is pretty much how it’s done. PS ever hear of a failure? My single axle has a 6000 lb axle on it and the load on it is...

    4.3 liter, the DC-10 of I/Os...

However…. The main point of difference…the crankshaft…in the almost 20 years I’ve been on this site & others I’ve never heard of a 4.3 breaking a crank. Not once. Also one thing no one else mentioned: Unlike the SBC V8 none of the cyl head exhaust ports on the V6 are right next to each other...

1988 omc 5.7 w/ omc outdrive rookie service

And a GOOD CONDITION Quadrajet is far superior to a Holley. I tried the exact 4160 brand new that was set up for the 4.3s and it ran like crap. Took the time to really clean the QJet & rebuilt it with better quality parts and it ran 100 % better. The spread bore QJet when cleaned right & set up...

    Trailer Leafsprings Bottoming Out

Actually most boat trailers I see that have spring axles have the springs under the axle like that. It’s done to lower tide height and is common on leaf spring cars if you look at old Mopars with torsion bars up front & leafs put back. Nothing wrong with spring under set ups your problem is the...

Mercruiser 4.3 LX Gen+, Hydrolock, no water in oil.

It does get into the oil via the cyls. Mine had mayo under the valve covers & in the cam valley. This was from just a little water in #2 and #1. The longer it sits there the worse it is. So get it up & running ASAP

    4.3 liter, the DC-10 of I/Os...

https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/chevy-43l-262ci-v6-engine-build/ The result was 301 hp at 5,500 rpm and 312 lb-ft at 4,700. Puny, but let us remind you that it's still 50 hp per cylinder (a similar 350 V-8 would make 400 hp), which is pretty good for the very mild parts we used. Besides, at...

    4.3 liter, the DC-10 of I/Os...

Some will agree but even Hot Rod magazine did a nice build up with the result being somewhere north of 300 hp. As a practical matter though, as long as the owner observes a 5000 rpm redline, well if you blow that 4.3 up, you might blow up a 5.0 or a 5.7 just the same. Back when GM still supplied...

    Maintenance intervals

the beauty of old school inboards and I/Os is unlike outboards, you can get GM/Chevrolet parts for the engines, and, since the small block Chevrolet is the most popular boat, hot rod, etc engine at least here in the USA, the aftermarket behind it is HUGE, just look at JEGS and Summit Racing...

    Maintenance intervals

yep and mechanic's knowledge, is like the quest for the holy grail. I guess because we as teenagers already knew how to troubleshoot lawn mowers, dirt bikes and when we got to cars, had a bit of experience. The video game/internet generation, not so much. But, they can learn here so that's all good!

and they came in a lot of bargain priced entry level boats that don't get maintained. the only thing I can throw out there beyond what I said is that Merc made a big mistake with those one piece V6 manifolds that caused a lot of engine problems, (cracking & water intrusion) but that was Merc...

https://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassembly/31527/16591/40 https://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassembly/31527/16591/50 look familiar? I guess Merc thought it was good enough, to update and refine it further....as I said, a lot of old school GM engineering appears to live on here...

    Maintenance intervals

Maintenance intervals well you can use the manuals as a good guide but also common sense/mechanics knowledge. Examples: Bellows, regardless of age replace when you see small cracks forming between the folds. That means the rubber is not pliable & getting stiff. Shift cable, as soon as you notice...

    4.3 liter, the DC-10 of I/Os...

I don't think so, at all. They can take a beating like any other Chevy small block, and are perfect for small boats. Mine suffered a bad overheat (2013) blown head gaskets and water in a couple cyls (2016) got a pair of reman cyl heads and new gaskets (2017) and is still running on the original...

Mercruiser 4.3 LX Gen+, Hydrolock, no water in oil.

Well yeah no flappers!!! that could explain it! wonder if this boat had a past overheat that melted em, or if they just fell off. In the second pic of the manifold its hard to tell but I think I see a bit of rust in the center exhaust gas section but that could be from water rushing up the Y...
