    Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,...... The 1st 1/4 or so of the lever throw, is shiftin' the outdrive,..... With the lever at Wot, are the throttle plates in the carb full open,..?? Ya might need less prop pitch to get yer rpms up to 4400/ 4800,....

    Ayuh,..... I once did this on a 3.0l at a dock, with a right-angle cordless drill, 'n lefthanded bit,..... But for a V-motor, I'd pull the motor, rather than destroyin' the block,....

    Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,.... Ya can't just move the starter, it mounts in a dedicated spot,..... What you can do to alleviate the issue is paint it, 'n do more to keep the bilge dry,....

    Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,...... If it's a remote mounted, it should be obvious on the portside of the motor,.... If it's block mounted, it'll be way down low, aft on the portside of the block,.....

    Ayuh,..... If the rest of the trailer is steel, I'd use a 3x3" piece of steel,..... If thev rest of thev trailer is aluminum, I'd use 3x3 aluminum,..... Yer boat is fairly small, so I don't see a need for 4x3",....

    Ayuh,..... Ya can't swap the carb, 'n intake Charlie, the new motor has Vortec heads, the old motor don't,...... The intake to heads bolt pattern is different, 12 bolts on the old motor, only 8 on the Vortec heads,....

    Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,...... Generally speakin', the Start circuit on I/O boats is, the yellow/ red wire from the key switch, through the neutral switch on the controller, to the slave solenoid, to the solenoid on the starter,...... The Ignition circuit is the purple wires off the key...

    Ayuh,..... You'll need to drill 2 new holes up near the top, 'n possibly tune the tiller arm slot slightly,..... Really, no big deal,...... I use the fiberglass skin from the donor hull to locate the new holes,......

    Ayuh,...... I had a '74 221 S/C Islander, 'n pulled the 120 hp/MC-1 , 'n dropped in a '94 4.3LX/ Alpha 1, then ran it for over 20 years,..... With the 4 banger it did 'bout 28 mph, but never 30 mph,...... With the 4.3LX it pulled a consistent 43 mph, with of course, neck breakin'...

    Ayuh,...... This points to two possibilities,...... The wire from the (-) side of the coil, to the hot side of the points, might not be passin' the power through,...... Or,..... The distributor body needs to be a good solid ground, as the static side of the points needs to be able to ground...
