    Replacing winch

Winch ratings are deceptive. Get the largest winch you can find that fits on your winch stand F= D x R Force - effort Diameter of spool Radius of winch handle Winches are rated with an empty, smallest diameter spool. Since the radius of the winch handle is fixed, every turn of the handle...

Please advise on first outboard purchase

The lower bay is big water. Lots of tide and current. If push comes to shove, it not if, it’s when.. your going to want more than a 15, especially is you have more than 1 person an board. Personally I’d max out the boat’s HP rating. My neighbor has a 40 on his 16’ Carolina Skiff he used to crab

    Quality Bullet Connectors

Depends on the application and wire size. For joining 12-20 awg its hard to beat some of the low voltage connectors on the market. I like the 3M scotchlok, moisture guard connectors. If you need to connect and reconnect on a regular basis i use either a Molex connector or quick disconnects...

    Solunar Theory

As I noted above, light conditions and water temps are predictable from year to year. We have a hard time predicting the weather from one day to the next let alone long term. I'll rush you to the dock in the hours before a strong low pressure system pushes through the area. Fishing in the...

Honda 150 performance issue on Hewescraft Searunner 190

I'd bet good money that it's not the gas. Performance bulletins for the boat put WOT at close to 40 mph although I see a couple of red flags in your post. 1. Are you quoting GPS speed or speedometer speed? 2. What was your engine rpm when all if this was happening? 3. New owner... do you know...

    Solunar Theory

The "Fishing Tables" have been the butt of a running jokes with us for years. Have a fishing buddy who pontificates his expectations based on the day's Solunar forecast every time we go fishing. As a SW guy it's a know fact that fish bite better during tide changes (tidal movement) but that's...

    Marine Audio and CD Receivers

If I’m going through the hassle of splicing wires I’m switching over to a Molex style connector. Quick, easy and the radio side can be done on the bench. Makes changing out radios quick and easy. Radio can still be removed for winter storage.

    battery chargers

I thought the one he blew up was over priced. A battery charger consist of a $12 transformer and $10 PCB. The hardware (enclosure, switches and cables) cost more than the electronics. Can’t comprehend what you would paying more for unless you get longer warranty.

    Stalling mystery

    Can anyone identify these leaks?

The upper “leak” is spent fuel leaking out of carbs when you tilt the motor up. Some leak more than others but it’s perfectly normal The grease down below is perfectly normal as well. Some wipe off the excess after greasing. Others, myself included, like to leave excess in place as a first...

    2004 Hydra Sport 180CC opinions

You will see a pretty significant increase in comfort from the increased weight but don’t expect miracles. An 18’ boat is still pretty small in big water. It wasn’t until I jumped up to 22-6” and almost doubling the weight of the 19’ I/O did I see a significant increase in comfort. Don’t...
