Accessories don't work when boat in water

This doesn’t make any sense. The diagnosis would make more sense if the circuit worked on the water (conductive) and not on the trailer. Check for continuity between the primary ground terminal on the fuse panel and the hull. Then check between the ground terminal on the battery and the...

Late 80s ez-loader trailer spring bushing replacement

It doesn't matter one way or the other. The spring is bolted to the axle and "floats" in the spring hangers. The nylon bushing is there simply to "guide" the end of the spring while minimizing metal on metal noise. Yes, you can replace w/o removing the axle. Raise the trailer to take the load...

    Garmin stricker 4 plus issues

Not sure what to tell you. Unless the fish have some sort of magic stealth mode, they are down there and you just don't recognize them. From your manual: When using the unit with the fish symbols off, set the gain up to approximately +2 and use the split screen zoom. This will make it easier...

    Garmin stricker 4 plus issues

First bear in mind that the detection zone is an inverted cone with the point in the center of the transducer. Your “dual beam” transducer shoots 77/200 kHz with beamwidths of 45/15 degrees. A 15 degree beam angle give bottom coverage (diameter) of roughly a 1/3 of the depth. 70/3= 23’ . From...

    Garmin stricker 4 plus issues

What transducer are you running? How deep? Bear in mind that depending on what transducer and depth of water, the cone of detection could be very small. Also suggest you turn off fish symbols and learn how to read returns yourself using “arches” instead of fish symbols.

    Trailer tires dryrotting again

Guess I’m luck. Never had a tire issue. Pretty religious about swapping tires 6 years from manufactured date. Trailered 8,000+ miles a year up until last year. Couldn’t tell you what brand tires are on on either trailer. Just take it down to a friend who owns the local tire shop and take his...

98ish Evinrude 50 - high voltage reading on dash but not battery

Obviously the OMC meter is wrong and needs replaced. The 14.7 at the battery is not real. It’s a surface charge from the charge circuit. Turn the motor off. Then turn on your navigation lights for a couple of minutes to remove the surface charge. Then measure both points again. Both should...

1980 Sea Ray Sundancer Battery problem

Not sure what to tell you at this point. I could not doubt troubleshoot it in short order in person but the limited amount of info you’ve conveyed so far gives little to go on. Draining a battery overnight is a large draw down. Shouldn’t be hard to isolate. Where exactly are you measuring at...

Lower prop pitch to get higher RPM?

I’m not an I/O guy, but if memory serves me you should be getting 4700-4800 rpm at WOT. Engine problems or wet foam are the usual culprits

1975 StarCraft Mariner build "The Unicorn"

Unfortunately, washing doesn't prevent staining. I was religious about washing my first boat after use. Didn't take long for rust stains to begin appearing out from under rail stanchions, joints in the hand rail, heads of screws, etc. Anywhere moisture was trapped for any length of time. My...

Can electrical power be pulled from a 25hp Merc outboard?

So it comes down to run time. Using your model your looking at roughly 4:1 run time to maintain. Assuming a long day of fishing is 4 to 5 hours. Runtime would need to be 1 to 1.2 hours to maintain. Possible, but not likely running a 16’ boat with 25 hp on a lake Something to think about

Can electrical power be pulled from a 25hp Merc outboard?

The Striker draws 0.75 amps. To keep it running for 8 hours your looking at a small, 6AH rechargeable battery. The 12v, 8AH battery (8x3x2) used in the solar fencer outback is 8AH for $19. Going to a “2 day” ~14AH battery would run roughly $40. Using the motor to charge battery brings up...
