Yes - you're right! That was the other C4 I owned. I forgot it was the '89 that was the skip-shift. Damn, I'm getting old when I forget minor details like that!

Spark plugs and cap replacement interval

That ran a chill up my spine and made me cringe! When I used to turn wrenches, that was one of the things the shop manager at the first job told me. No jewelry. Later on in life when I got a real job working around transmitters with 35,000+ volt power supplies capable of delivering it at...

Spark plugs and cap replacement interval

LOL - no worries - I just remember getting bit more times than I'd care to admit, and the shock wasn't typically what hurt, it was the flailing and hitting everything sharp and pointy that could possibly be hit while jerking my whole body back in wincing surprise!

    Cars you should have kept.

Just about all of 'em... '72 240Z (I've had two of them - worth a small fortune nowadays!) '72 Firebird '72 Vega (350 V8) '79 Trans Am '84 Corvette And some that were just plain awesome and useful, but not necessarily special... '85 Caravan '85 Daytona Turbo '87 LeBaron Turbo convertible And the...

Yep. Thanks, CAFE standards. The first thing done to that 4+3 transmission in my first C4 was to disable that mess. Good thing we have all these ridiculous laws to make our lives so much better, huh? 🤬

Spark plugs and cap replacement interval

Ouch! Don't do this! Where did this advice come from, ESG? No offense intended (seriously), but this sounds like some AI generated hooey. That's a great way to get hurt - possibly seriously. Not from the shock, but from the reaction to the shock, or possible cardiac issues if someone has...

    Mercruiser Setting Timing on 3.0L

Excellent advice. And yes, if the head is warped (not flat) you'll be visiting a machine shop, unless you happen to have a large metal working mill and all the fixtures capable of swinging a cylinder head resurfacing tool ;) Pay no attention to those on the internets that try to convince you to...

    2012 90hp Mercury Steering cable

Just find where it went when the cable inner piece popped it off when the wheel was turned way past the normal full stop to port and see if you can just clamp it back into where it normally lives. Otherwise, that is not likely something that can be found available by itself. Perhaps contact...

    4.3 GL-D Electrical Issues

Looks like either this never had the oil pressure switch or someone removed it and let the switch connector dangle. Usually there is a sender which feeds the gauge as you identified up by the distributor and a switch that turns on the warning horn down by the oil filter.

    2012 90hp Mercury Steering cable

Yep. Got that. And I see the helm end of the cable spewed out of the tail end of the non-engine end slack take up tube of the helm so far that it removed the outer sheath and the end cap, the part high tide refers to as the bottom end. Since we don’t have any pics of the engine end where it...

    2012 90hp Mercury Steering cable

There is only one steering cable. What you see as a gray cable sheath running inside of the engine cowling is not the part shown in your photos... somewhere along the way you mixed that up. That's probably your shifter or throttle cable, as is evidenced by the "cable" in the second photo being...

    4.3 GL-D Electrical Issues

Oil pressure switch is right above the oil filter - or if you have a remote oil filter, above where the adaptor attaches to the block.

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

I figured it was probably that. I didn't even know that one could do the radio delete option nowadays. I used to be deep off into high-end car audio. Did some IASCA competitions, etc. The older I get, the more I'd rather spend it on more sensible modifications. Long gone are the days of...

    Mercruiser Setting Timing on 3.0L

Thanks - I'll be here all week! Don't forget to tip your waitress! Dan - be sure that you verify the head is not warped. If there's any question about it, it's much cheaper and easier to address it while you've got it apart than to do the job twice. That being written, it's not a very...

    Mercruiser Setting Timing on 3.0L

Yeah - that guy is running on two cylinders. 2&3 are 180 degrees away, so the engine goes fire-miss-fire-miss-fire-miss-fire-miss-fire-miss.... Makes it easier to hide the failures. Odd that a head gasket would be so blown as to give you 0PSI compression. That would be a VERY blown head...

Scott, you give them too much credit! ;) https://carbuzz.com/seat-heater-recalls/ I'm with you except for the radio delete. I wish the EPA and all of it's ridiculously restrictive anti-diesel laws would dissolve so we could return to mechanical diesel fuel pumps. At least there's no major...

Spark plugs and cap replacement interval

Perhaps just buy a set and a cap, and leave your old ones as a spare. I think in a marine environment, there’s such a wide range of service variables, which could lead to a wide range of service intervals that you’re either throwing money away or not replacing it before it fails. Only you can...

Robalo2440 1995 Nav light needs repaired

Maybe take it apart and repair whatever is keeping the bulbs from illuminating? A lamp is pretty much the simplest electrical thing on a boat. I must say though, usually manufacturers use off the shelf items like this, and I can’t remember seeing a removable nav light like that. It looks more...

Is this water hookup for winterizing or for running out of the water?

Good point, ESG. This is for those that have the blue cap showing that pictograph symbol, or any other engine plumbed like that which dumps hose water into the inlet of a an engine mounted raw water pump, like the one I plumbed into my Bravo III.

Most would (and do) pay good money to rid their vehicle of that auto start stop crap. Enjoy it (and the extended lifetime of related components) as long as you can!
