Separate electrical systems on boat (engine, trolling, house).

Nine out of ten times, it’s RF or EMI that interferes with electronics on a boat. Connecting the electronics a second battery will not resolve the issue. You have to find the root cause and fix the problem. Fwiw: Trolling motors are notorious offenders either by poor design or the “power saver”...

    Installing System Check harness questions

Connector goes on motor. Flat level wires run to gauge at helm My volt meter is attached to the “power” lug on the battery switch. Meter be wired pretty much anywhere, but wanted a direct connection to keep the reading as direct as possible

No. Connect grounds together. Run hot wire from each battery to a 1/2/both battery switch. Starter connects to switch

Considering moving and changing my type of boat(ing) and want opinions

If you have never boated in tidal water your in for a rude awakening......lol Doesn’t have to be windy to keep you at the dock. Wind speed, tides, moon phase and wind direction all have to be factored in. Even the battles cruisers (60-70’ offshore fishing boats) are forced to wait out...

Vesselview link to lowrance elite ti2 from new Mercury 115hp outboard

The harness going to ignition switch and gauges is analog. You need to connect to the digital port with some sort of a gateway. In reality you may need two gateways if the vessel gateway doesn’t support a NMEA 2000 connection

    Calibrating SC1000 guage after repower

I can see doing distance to empty from fuel consumption, mine does that as well, but what is the point of entering multiple fuel levels if your running linear calculations? On mine, you can build a correction curve to make the gauge (digital) read correctly

    Calibrating SC1000 guage after repower

Yes, it will recalculate assuming you captured the “range” of the sender correctly to begin with. I believe he started the multiple-point calibration before filling the tank and the computer captured this 35 litre value as empty. Switching over to linear mode would solve the problem until you...

    Calibrating SC1000 guage after repower

The range of the gauge doesn't matter since your indirectly defining a range of values (empty = x ohms), (full = x ohms) and the capacity as part of the configuration. Simple math from that point

Flickering cabin light when turning on item from switch panel.

The problem with tapping off existing services is you have no idea what it’s supplying or how it’s routed. I ran 14 awg duplex from the fuse panel directly to the battery when I installed a dedicate fuse panel for my electronics. What size is you ground wire? Needs to be the same size or...

Just to clarify, do you have a "Merc to Y2K Gateway" (~$400) or a NMEA 2000 "backbone" installed. Don't need the Gateway to talk with the Motorguide

    Calibrating SC1000 guage after repower

According to the manual you either start calibration with an empty tanks or do nothing and use it in linear mode. Not sure if it will let you, but try to do a partial 3/4 tank calibration when you get down to 3/4 of a tank. See what happens Otherwise, you're stuck waiting until your empty and...

Vesselview link to lowrance elite ti2 from new Mercury 115hp outboard

Your motor speaks Merc-anses to Vesselview. Your Lowrance speaks NMEA 2000. You need a translator (Gateway) for the two to communicate

    Calibrating SC1000 guage after repower

Did you by chance have fuel in the tank before you filled it? Calibrating the system simply assigns a ohm reading to a fuel level 0 ohms = empty tank..........1/2 tank = 120 ohms.....240 ohms = full tank, etc. From there, entering fuel capacity determines resolution: 240 ohms = 165 litre...

    Lowrance X51 Pro

Like most electronics, the X51 is old beyond its years from a technology perspective. Going on two generations at this point. Having said that, a newer unit buys you nothing until you have enough experience to interrupt what your seeing on the display. My recommendation is to use the X51 until...

    handheld vs fixed mount VHF

    Prop Recommendations
