    Metal transom protector

I use neither If 2.5" of glass and wood is not sufficient to support the weight of the motor, an measly piece of 1/8" thk. aluminum isn't going to help.

    Helicoil issues

Timeserts are an adaptation of interference fit (SS) inserts used to "harden" threads in aluminum. We used them for years in our products. They work very well but typically require specialty tooling to insert them correctly.

Really stiff steering 2021 300 Mercury Pro Xs

What do you mean by "stiff"? Turning a 300 HP outboard isn't going to be effort free w/o power steering. Running the motor out of trim or a mis-adjusted torque tab will exasperate the problem

    Helicoil issues

Helicoils in aluminum are a "quick fix" at best.........will fail sooner than later if the fastener is removed repetitively. The best long term solution is to replace the head.

Shocks AND leaf springs on my trailer??

Since they are not galvanized, I’m guessing the shock brackets are homemade. Certainly wouldn’t be hard to fabricate

What is this gel-like substance in my carb? Mercruiser 3.0L Alpha 1

Looks like the liner out of a fuel hose. When was the last time the fuel hoses where changed? A 15 yro fuel line is well past it’s life expectancy of 10 years, at best

    Outboard Detailing

It a “marine” engine. It’s designed to be run in wet, humid conditions. Certainly don't “drown” the thing but a light spray wouldn’t harm anything. Can’t speak for your configuration but the air box limos access. I removed mine. Covered the intake of the carbs (6) using sandwich bags and...

    Boat Radio/Stereo Help

I prefer not to do that if at all possible. Too many bad things can happen with a float switch Most bilge pumps are little more than glorified condensation pumps. They do not have the capacity to keep a boat afloat from a hull failure which basically leaves you protecting against rain events...

    Transducer cable through transom?

I've use the cable clam in the paste. Had issues with the bend radius of the cable but made it work. Having said that, liberal use of 4200 and a stainless clam shell is the best solution. Run cable, fill hole with sealer, install clam shell over top. Works and looks good, easy to remove.

    Starcraft boat market?

    (y) Hardtop with full enclosure. March thru January.......Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean Prime Striper season begins late November and runs until water temps push the bait too far south (to travel) or out beyond the 3 mile limit. Typically mid to late January. Season kicks back into gear...

    Starcraft boat market?

You are correct, one size doesn't fit all which is why they make multiple configurations of the same model. From my perspective, a boat that lets me fish a tuna tournament in the morning... come home, hose the blood out of the boat, throw the cushions back on the seats and take my wife and...

    Starcraft boat market?

Interesting read (perspective) for a guy who fishes walk around (22’) and center console (25’) “glitter” boats both inshore offshore. The market for well equipped, offshore capable, “family friendly” fishing boats has really taken off over the past 10 years. The trend certainly has filtered...

    Boat Radio/Stereo Help

Scratching my head.......What do you need a "kill switch for? Do you not have a battery Off/1/2/Both switch? There should be nothing connected directly to the battery. That's just asking for problems. Main power to the boat should come off the "accessories" connection on the back of the...
