    '67 Holiday 18' - Make it Usable

I know some will say, 'why go to all this work, just do it right the first time'. - I get that, that's why I was originally going to put new gelcoat over the old with all the appropriate prep-work. But the existing gelcoat was cracking, and in the pic above you can see water stains on the...

Looking to Paint over Old Gelcoat.

I'm currently going this method also. I was pretty much settled on doing gelcoat over old gelcoat and I decided otherwise when I started thinking about how much work would be involved, and then it would only be as good as the old gelcoat below. So, for now, I'm going to do oil-based paint over...

    $100 Paint Job Question.

Yeah, Barry was always very active in the forums also, and quick to answer questions. I haven't logged in there for several years.

    Non-Skid - Economic Options

Sorry for my indecisiveness. Never have worked with paints or the like much. I just nailed boards together for a living.

    '67 Holiday 18' - Make it Usable

I've scuffed up the remaining gelcoat and I'm going to go with some sort of inexpensive non-slip home-cheapo paint to tide me over this season.

    '67 Holiday 18' - Make it Usable

I really think someone did a restore on this boat some years ago and put a new wood deck and then covered it with gelcoat. The seats and side panels were reupholster some years back. I pulled some more of the gelcoat back, and the wood floor is in great condition..

    $100 Paint Job Question.

Will this waterborne wax and grease remover be fine for wiping down a surface that I plan on painting with Oil-Based paint?

    Non-Skid - Economic Options

Checking things out, the current gelcoat is looking old and peeled away from the plywood floor with not much effort. If I was to scuff it up what's there and put a coat of paint over it all to tide me over, would there be an issue with using Rust-Oleum Oil-Based on the currently exposed...

    '67 Holiday 18' - Make it Usable

I was thinking of putting a fresh coat of new gelcoat, but then started thinking if there are issues with the floor below, it would be a waste of energy and materials to cover a surface that needs work. I'm leaning towards just patching the bad areas and putting a non-slip paint over it. The...

    $100 Paint Job Question.

I know the link to the $100 paint job. That Originally talked about using Rust-Oleum Oil-Based Enamel, but later recommended Tractor Paint (Oil-Based. I also found this thread: https://forums.iboats.com/threads/clarify-the-100-boat-paint-job-please.576241/ . Question, I have this Wax & Grease...

    Non-Skid - Economic Options

From another thread: "use shark grip instead. it's plastic particles that you mix into paint." . Like I said above, plastic grounds should practically be free like real sand. Grind it up and put it in 20 pound bags and sell it at Home Depot as a non skid additive for $5 a bag.

    Non-Skid - Economic Options

Great! Then I think I have a plan. I may even sprinkle some non-skid on top. Thanks again, all.

    Non-Skid - Economic Options

Thanks, if I buy a non-skid product rather than use actual sand, correct? My understanding is typical sand is difficult to sand. 🙂

    Non-Skid - Economic Options

Thanks all. The boat is a 67 18 foot aluminum StarCraft Holiday with a plywood floor The current structurally sound plywood floor has a good coat of brushed on gelcoat that's kinda slippery if you don't have the correct shoes. After searching and reading several threads (and YouTube), I'm...

Floatation Foam - 67 StarCraft Holiday

Yeah, if I had the floor up I would just replace the styrofoam with exterior (closed cell) rigid insulation, but my floor is also solid and dry. . I keep my boat under cover, and I'll only take her out on the water maybe 10 times a year, and since I replaced the transom, it stays dry even out on...

Floatation Foam - 67 StarCraft Holiday

I guess my concern was how I read in these forums of people replacing the foam because it's water logged. I don't think this kind of styrofoam gets water logged.

Someone posted somewhere that my tires look too small for my boat and trailer. Here is their rating and size:

Floatation Foam - 67 StarCraft Holiday

The foam in my boat below my floor is styrofoam - like was used in those old Styrofoam ice chests. Is this original to a 1967 StarCraft Holiday? It's perfectly dry.
