    Now when you have the LU apart check the clutch dog. It is the clutch dog that make the shifting from forward and reverse and vice versa. The edges at the clutch dog teeth should be sharp and perpendicular not rounded. If they are rounded it maybe slip out of gear under load.

    Check with a VOM if the alternator is putting out any AC voltage. Do it with the wires connected to the regulator/rectifier. Then check if there is any DC voltage output more then battery voltage at the regulator/rectifier. Outboardignitiondotcom have troubleshoot chart for the regulator/rectifier.

    The alternator (stator) will start to charge at about 1100-1200 RPM and the regulator/rectifier would regulate the voltageup to about 15-16VDC independent RPM. You should see voltage rise at the battery over battery voltage at about 1200 RPM.

    Clean the carb and set the air/fuel mixture screw 1 turn out from lightly seated. Then you have to fine tune it in water and in gear. 1-11/2 turn out for the air/fuel mixture screw would be a good set point.

    Do a troubleshooting for the ignition system. Outboardignitiondotcom has the troubleshoot chart. According to the model number from the id tag the engine do not have the Prestolite system with one CDI box with two output channels. It has the one with CDI and ignition coil built in in the same unit.

    I am not very good at the T&T cause I have not worked on so many OB with T&T. Only follow the spec from the OEM workshop manual. Have three OB with T&T, one Chrysler 45Hp, one 125Hp Force and one Chrysler 135Hp.

    Maybe bad seals, use regular 10W40 oil and see what happens. Do not use power steering oil or ATF oil, it can hurt the seals.

    See you have a screw driver in the hole where the pivot pin screw should be. But to put the shift rod back you have to disassemble the gear case as the shift rod has to be threaded back into the gear shift arm.
