Simple winterization process / draining 4.3gl

That I can’t say, because my OMC Cobra doesn’t have that set up. Why not post a pic of yours?

Do you have a DIY vacuum / pressure tester?

I have the same ones, very helpful, also used them for other things like checking anti-siphon valves....

Simple winterization process / draining 4.3gl

My OMC manual said the same and I felt the same as you. What I do is disconnect the raw water hose at the 'stat housing and fill that hose with -100 (-50 freeze point) marine antifreeze till it runs out the water intakes on the outdrive. Doing this 20+ years and never had a problem. Yours is...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Very interesting, so you can see besides the location of the lever arm being higher on the outboard transom, with the I/O, the front engine mounts & sheer weight of the cast iron engine in effect could counter act the tendency of the thrust of the prop to try to force the power package up...

How much water pressure is too much, for running on the hose?

Long Island uses ground water & pumping stations so there aren’t a lot of water towers but there are some…

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

How much water pressure is too much, for running on the hose?

This is something I have wondered about for years, when running your I/O on the water hose, some say use full water pressure, some say it's too much, use 1/2 open, so I got curious and bought a water pressure gauge. I found that my household water pressure is 90 psi, and it doesn't matter if...

Need to remove pulpit on 1999 Chaparral 290

Agreed, find a different boat. Too bad because it's a good deal. You or whoever does it would have to re-engineer it to include an anchor locker which it doesn't have now, that isn't a simple job. I know here slips are hard to find & expensive, I keep mine on a mooring, the only cost is the...

    Electric Brake Overhaul???

I know they are not common but I did see a set of galvanized backing plates for electric brakes, also if you look for them you can get zinc coated brake drums. These would last much longer than plain painted brake assemblies. Here's some tips from maintaining drum brakes in salt water.... 1)...

    Power steering actuator removal

That is a tight spot, the crow foot or other specialized wrench may get it. I didn't have trouble with those but on OMCs and Volvos they use cotter pins instead of locking tabs that are hell to get out. Rag is covering the Y pipe to keep stuff from falling in it. cotter pin extractor....

    Volvo DP-SM water in oil

I think it's worth having a pressure and vacuum tester, because some seals are not that hard to replace but there are some where you might need a mechanic, esp if the drive won't easily come apart for repairs.

Gas Pressure washer "turn off" instructions incorrect??

I have found that using e10 with Stabil is hit or miss as far as leaving carbs full of gas in storage. Some years ok sone years I do have to clean out the carb. Since draining I don’t have to do that. I think it could be variation in the actual alcohol content of the fuel, maybe some samples are...

Gas Pressure washer "turn off" instructions incorrect??

One local station is selling 94 octane E0 for $7.50 a gallon. If I use 2-3 gallons with the yard engines a year it's a lot. Worth it.

Gas Pressure washer "turn off" instructions incorrect??

PS definitely make sure to winterize it Charlie, we do get cold enough for it to freeze and crack the pump housing. The spray cans for that work well. I have an older one that the pump gave out on (not from freezing just wouldn't make pressure) and was able to get a new pump for less than 100...

Gas Pressure washer "turn off" instructions incorrect??

Over 30 years with numerous small engines, I have done OK with E10 if carbs with float bowls are drained at the end of the season, I put shut off valves on them for this reason, and will remove the bowl if it doesn't have a drain on it, that way you don't have deposits left on the bottom that...

And use soapy water around seals & look for bubbles…I have to do the water pump shaft seal on my Cobra this winter…it was last re-sealed in 2006…so I can’t complain too much!!!

    Impeller replacement glycerin and grease

Out the water exhaust…. One thing I do before spring start up is disconnect the raw water intake hose @ the thermostat housing and fill it with water and some dawn dish soap which puts that mixture into the impeller housing to lube it after sitting all winter in storage….then reconnect the hose...

Volvo Penta 5.7 Fuel Starvation Under Load

Well this is a tough one but I think more investigation is needed. Everything points to the fuel mix being way too rich, between the fuel in the oil and dark center electrode insulators on the spark plugs. However, we don't know if the injectors are over-fueling due to wear, dirt or if the...
