Hmm could it be on when it's not supposed to be ON?

Yep, use the tongue jack to make sure the coupler won't pop off the ball! I never liked those adjustable U-Haul couplers for the same reason. The make noise all the time it seems.

Help choosing an older cruiser - 1993 Chris Craft Crown 262 or 1995 Rinker 265 Fiesta Vee

I say neither. The Rinker needs all new upholstery and looks like the cabin was flooded, did it sink? If you're going to self maintain it the engine is in a hole, lots a luck working on it hanging upside down. The Chris Craft looks to be in much better condition but that's not a Volvo drive...

The one you have is a good bit simpler than later models. Some of the issues with Volvo are parts prices (really excessive for certain things) and availability. Also, to me putting the trim pump in the transom shield OUTSIDE the boat in the water was a major mistake, vs the previous design, this...

10 second video of motor sound - Anyone have any ideas? Yamaha F115

That high pitched sound that starts about half way through the vid?

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Wow great progress I think if I tried that, I'd be getting what we used to call in Brooklyn "La Faccia Brutta" from my better half, lol...

I could be wrong but I recall reading that the color accents on a Formula are not fade prone gelcoat but sprayed in Imron paint. Definitely better quality. The best thing I ever did to my old boat was to have the hull sprayed in red Imron, it still looks great 13 years later, with next to no...

If these are sterndrive boats, the other factor is Merc or Volvo and if you choose Volvo, can you find service? Sea Ray, I believe is all Merc, but I think F/W sold many boats with Volvo power, don't know about Formula.

    New engine installation

I wonder if the shop buggerd the threads removing that plug?

    4 cylinder pushrod cover replacement?

If you do pull the distributor set it at TDC for #1 cyl and mark the position of the rotor on the distributor body so you don't mix it up! Mark both the body of the distributor to the block and the rotor to the distributor before pulling it out!

I looked at a pic of a reman 5.7 Vortec on Michigan Motorz's site and it has the upper hole empty but the lower hole has a pipe plug in it with a hex...

Are you going to do your own maintenance? Since these are twin engine boats also in addition to other points check how they are set up for engine maintenance. How much room on the outboard sides of the engine & in between the engines…

Probably a good idea with a new trailer or one new to you, to try to lift the tongue with the tongue jack after latching the coupler, just to see if it pops off! I recall adjusting that nut many years ago, got it tight but not enough to bind up the ball.

    New engine installation

Something odd there, the upper hole seems threaded but the lower hole does not and what’s that odd looking gouge/casting flaw to the right of the lower hole?

    New engine installation

Some engines have an oil pressure switch to turn on the electric fuel pump after starting that goes there. I don't think that VP wires it that way but for sure that hole has to be plugged. The right size plug will work but you need to find out the size and type of threads (straight thread or...

    Stalling, sudden low idle.

This is carb was bought new but now it's 2 years old correct ? Have you contacted Edelbrock tech support? The only thing I have ever heard of with these carbs is that one of the floats can be too close to the side of the float bowl and cause the float to stick. One thing you could do is remove...

    Towing friends boat damage

I'd ask your agent as suggested above, this is different than a typical accident in that the other "vehicle" is not someone else's car or truck. Might fall into the realm of comprehensive ins. They will probably look at it as user error unless there was a flaw in the coupler that led to this...
