    Towing friends boat damage

I tow trailers that are not mine to adjust. I frequently run into 2 different situations with safety chains. The first is too long which is easy to fix by twisting the chain a couple of times. The other is too short. Usually long enough to connect but too short to cross. Occasionally they won’t...

How can I make my Tracker 40 HP faster?

I get that but not seeing how to get a consistent test while holding a firing spark plug a set distance from a clean ground which is moving while also manipulating the starter controls. Sometimes it is difficult to just check for spark without trying for the 3/8” gap and it would have to jump...

How can I make my Tracker 40 HP faster?

I had a spark plug problem trick me into a new injector a few years ago. The plug would spark in free air while grounded to the engine case but would not spark in a chamber with 5 psi applied to it. I found it was bad by pulling plug wires one at a time with the engine running and confirmed it...

    Towing friends boat damage

A dip could easily toss the trailer. Vehicle coming down from the bounce as the trailer goes up. It doesn’t seem like many people locally cross safety chains under tongue to keep it from digging in if it comes loose from the vehicle.

    Towing friends boat damage

I don’t know the style of hitch involved but some can be adjusted. It could pop off the ball if adjusted too loose. One day at job I had, the guy who supposed to hook up the trailer, didn’t. The trailer came off the ball when I tried to load the skidsteer. I also broke the latch out of a coupler...

    Tongue Jack Failing

A universal jack would likely clamp onto the same location. It’s just unlikely to use the original bolt holes. Maybe the base could kept and just the jack replaced. Most are just held on with a snap ring.

    Tongue Jack Failing

Fiber is out today. Someone cut the bundle coming into town so I am having a hard time getting the pictures to load with the wife watching Netflix through my cell phone hotspot. Are there any markings on the jack? I would expect the manufacturer and model be stamped into it somewhere.

    Tongue Jack Failing

I wouldn’t use WD40. It wasn’t developed as a lube. Some jackscrews get motor oil so maybe some 30 wt. I have also seen moly-b grease and dry film called out but I don’t think either of those would be practical for this application. If staying with thin spray, I would recommend LPS 2 or maybe...

Loose Strap From Winch To Bow

That is like the lock I use on the coupler on my boat trailer. I have a pin lock to use on dove tail. I also have a ball lock to install when I’m not using the trailer. All are easy to get around if thieves are equipped. They even have an adapter that lets them hook up to a locked coupler and...

Loose Strap From Winch To Bow

I think it would be cheaper and easier to buy a locking pin than to drill a pin and buy a padlock. The locking pin I bought 11 years ago slides over the end and locks there. Nothing for bolt cutters to latch onto unless trying to cut the pin itself.

    Tohatsu

The bulb would be collapsed if the tank isn’t venting so he would not be able to pump it up. I would think filter or pump.

Loose Strap From Winch To Bow

Took the draw bar. Coupler had a padlock on it but just had the stock pin in the receiver. I installed a locking pin to hold the new drawbar and welded the nut onto the ball after the theft.

Loose Strap From Winch To Bow

The only people to see my trailer getting stolen saw a pickup pulling an empty boat trailer. They said they thought it was odd but couldn’t say what color the pickup was. Couldn’t even tell if it was light or dark in color. The theft happened about noon on a sunny day.

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

The clutch story reminded me of another day in the same jeep where I came down out of Redington Pass and crossed Tucson without brakes. Kind of the same situation. Leave in gear and kill the engine to stop. Just didn’t have to start it lurching forward. Too many safeties on new vehicles.

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

I drove all the way across Tucson, AZ in the early nineties in a 1966 CJ5 without a working clutch. Just killed it at stop signs and stop lights and started when I needed to go. Shifting was kind of a pain but I made it home when the clutch cable end broke. Carried a spare after that. It broke...

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

The alternator puts out plenty of power to operate the computer but apparently the computer now shuts down the alternator if it doesn’t sense a battery and that in turn shuts off the computer. It makes me wonder if it would run on a dead battery or if it would do like it did today when...

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

I learned an inconvenient thing about modern vehicles today. They can’t cannot be driven without a battery. My 2008 F150 lost its battery connection this morning and only went about half a block before shutting down, quite noisily I might add. My wife thought the transmission went out when all...

Loose Strap From Winch To Bow

Someone took my trailer while I was out fishing one day. Had to use my dovetail as a boat trailer for a few days. Pulled the receiver pin and plugged into their vehicle at the boat ramp.

Anybody familiar with these "Spindo" repair sleeves?

I just watched the video. It looks like the cup slides up against the shoulder and is held there with the o-ring and pressure from the bearing. Then the seal rides on the cup. The cup did have play on the axle in the video. I can see where it may work as a repair if the sealing surface is bad...

Anybody familiar with these "Spindo" repair sleeves?

I don’t see where it is a “repair sleeve”. What I have looked at and the video I watched makes it look like an enhanced or backup seal. If your spindle actually needs a minor repair then something like redi-sleeve would be what you need. Bearing Buddy sells a product just like it for use with...
