Correcting gear ratio with prop size

according to the FAA it is global but what do they know … https://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/ato/service_units/techops/navservices/gnss/gps/howitworks#:~:text=Satellite%20Navigation%20is%20based%20on,operated%20by%20the%20United%20States.

2001 4.3 vortec oil is milky

If yiu check below the cylinder heads, water passage on intake and the exhaust manifolds you will have it covered.

Is my Mercruiser fuel injected or carb?

No not to TBI but you will see some gain if you swap out the 2 bbl for a 4 bbl . would need an intake manifold too . I did that with my 5.0 runs very well and has great midrange throttle response. The eddelbrock 1409 is pretty good right out of the box on a 5.0

2001 4.3 vortec oil is milky

That exactly why I repowered. PO had cracked the block. Likely you will find the block cracked below the heads in the lifter valley. Easy to pull the intake to confirm. My boat (2004 Sea Ray 200) was offered with 4.3 and 5.0 engine options. Stringers and engine bay were set up for the longer...

    Sundowner 205 prop

You don’t say if you can get to WOT without the engine hitting rev limiter ? I assume you run out of rpms before getting throttle wide open ? As outlined above u likely need more pitch either 17” or 19” would definitely recommend roughing things in pitch wise before u spend on stainless...

    888 running cold

As mentioned would verify temp is accurate first Any blockage from a spent impeller would raise temps not lower them If it is low given your comment on cooling line mix up would verify that the cooling water flow is correct as to run too cool you would have to have water flow bypassing the...

    Does E3 make marine plugs?

At some point GM wasnt using the Vortec name on enough engines so they called the 3.0 a Vortec 3000. suspect nothing is different vs the 3.0 … https://marinepowerusa.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/30lspecs.pdf

Alpha drive for a V8 whats the ratio?

Ye cant have one with a 1.62 and the other drive a 1.47 ... If the engines are running 3000 rpm the prop shaft rpm diff between a 1.50 and 1.47 is 40 rpm. I doubt the throttle cables on a 1988 boat are synced that close. At some point merc tweaked their upper and lower gear designs that the...

    trouble getting reverse.

rarely good news in old boats... Do you have closed cooling? That would be a nice option to have assuming it is working

    Ready to ride, summer projects?

the adapter plate stays in between the exhaust manifold and elbow. I took it off and plugged it so i could use it on my GTO as well. I think the boat is pretty dialed in (a tad rich) so i dont know if put it on. it sat in a box all winter i was just gonna reinstall it on the gto now that the...

    Mercruiser 260 overheating please help

First place to start is water pump impeller , if an alpha drive will be in the drive need to split haves. If a bravo drive it will be belt driven on the front of engine. also check exhaust manifolds and risers for plugging and thermostat while you are in there

Correcting gear ratio with prop size

    Ready to ride, summer projects?

pretty sure that is the oem manifold and made by GM. That is the only cast iron 4 bbl manifolds I have seen for the 4.3 Edlebrock manifold also seems to be single plane with a partial divider as well. Both like like each side of the carb is essentially feeding 3 cylinders I think until you...

    trouble getting reverse.

If you are running a engine driven sea water pump with a through hull fitting for water pick up, then yes you want the hose to be cut in bellows area so impeller in drive is pushing water through the drive and out the cut hose to cool it. Engine driven pump will cool the engine separately.

Swap an OMC 5.8 with OMC 5.7

Yes I believe so. Even if the bolt holes need to be filled and re-drilled the transom cutout if the same. @Bondo can you confirm

    trouble getting reverse.

When you run a belt driven raw water pump on an alpha , you are supposed to cut the water supply hose in the bellows area. The drive impeller still needs to be maintained to push water through the drive to cool it. Usually this is done if closed cooling is added.

Swap an OMC 5.8 with OMC 5.7

Cobra and Merc Alpha and Bravo use the same transom cutout. OMC was so far behind Merc in sales they wanted the cobra drive to be easy for boat manufacturers to use interchangeably with merc so they used the same hole. If you have the Chevy 5.7 complete it will be easier but hard to say if all...

    1992 Bayliner 4.3

In addition to Teds comments - when you remove the plugs it should easily turn by starter or by hand. If it is locked up after removing plugs, pull the drive as it could be an issue with drive, gimbal bearing, or u joints as well. If you have to pull the drive an it is still locked up then...
