    Yeah you probably cooked the exhaust rubber. May have hit a plastic bag or other debris blocking water flow. Would take the hose off the thermostat housing where water comes up from the seawater pump (belt driven) start the engine briefly and see if you get any water coming up to thermostat...

    Wonder if the proper retainer to valve seal clearance is there? If when reconditioned they didnt cut the tops of valve guides down and fitted modern seals the retainer can kiss the seal and break $hit… had this exact issue on my 65 GTO, valve job done years ago cut guides for teflon seals…...

    There is only the SS rod to gimbal ring which is usually tight and the bushings that go into the cylinders. Take cylinders off and see where the slop is I had to clean out my cylinder bores with a wire brush on a drill to get new bushings in

    Would need transom housing as well as drive. is your engine carbed or mpi . Would need a engine driven water pump. I assume the chipped gear is the root cause maybe locking up the driveline
