    Winter Storage

Not sure what fogging accomplishes on a 2 stroke given the internals are constantly covered in fuel and oil mixture? If you feel the necessity to fog for whatever reason, simply choke and crank the motor over a couple of rotations. The fuel evaporates over time leaving a thick oil coating on...

    Battery low alarm

A fully charged 12 volt battery is 12.7 volts. A starting battery is technically dead at 12.0 volts. The current draw of a starter drops voltage between 1-2 volts depending on the starter. This puts you at 11.7 to 10.7 volts at start. If your battery drops below 10 volts your battery and or...

    Hummingbird no fish alarm

Agree…I go as far as to run my sounders in manual mode. Make adjustments to range, gain and sensitivity as needed, manually. A real pain on units with menu driven controls. Much prefer units with push buttons and knobs

What is this on the transom?

Took me a minute to figure out what I was looking at in your screen shot. The presentation is much different than Garmin ClearVu. Image looks like a cross between down scan and side scan. Turns out the difference is in the transducers. Garmin uses a 3 crystal transducer with a dedicated to...

    Hummingbird no fish alarm

You’re probably better off that it doesn’t… How does the unit know if the return is a fish or a stick? Not sure what you’re expecting… the sounder doesn’t find the fish.. that’s your job. They just confirm the presence of fish

What is this on the transom?

Don't worry about it......misinterpreted your post as being able to see "amazing details" at 650 ft. I have no problems seeing larger objects up to 75 ft. in calm water. The lack of "heave compensation" on the unit really puts a hurt on locating fish sized targets that those depths in open water.

What is this on the transom?

Would love to see some screen shots and know what unit/ transducer your using to get "amazing detail" in 650 ft. of water. Running a Garmin with a 500W GT51M transducer. Traditional CHIRP gets me to @ 1,200 ft, but I run out of juice with side scan in the 70-75 ft. range. ClearVu gets me in...

What is this on the transom?

Shoot thru installations work for depth. Not so good for fish finding. Introduces a frequency shift and a significant loose of sensitivity. Even with a “wet tank” installation, I was loosing almost 50% of my signal with a 600W RMS sounder Can’t do shoot thru because of the geometry and the...

    Slightly warm trailer hub

Pretty common for bearings to "loosen up" after installation especially when putting new bearings and hubs into service the first time. I purposely leave the bearings tight during the initial installation knowing that they will loosen up over time. Put a round trip on them (120 miles) and...

    Fuel treatment question.....

Sat out the season after ACDF surgery last fall. Have roughly 25 gallons of stabilized fuel from last July. Pulled the boat out to fire it up for a trip next week. Fuel actually looked and smelled pretty good. Plan is to add another 25 gallons of 93 Octane E10 and run it. Storing fuel in an...

    Trailer Axle Wear Sleeve Alternatives?

A piece of 1.5” pvc fit mine almost perfectly. Here is a pretty ingenious hack. https://www.yesterdaystractors.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=farmall&th=767543 You’ll need #2 permatex (non-hardening) as a sealer

    Trailer Axle Wear Sleeve Alternatives?

Read the small print on the spindle sleeves. Bought one when I went through this process a couple years back. The sleeve I purchased required a seal different from IE supply. Still sitting in the junk box in the garage. 99149 is the industry sleeve size Google…. Wear seal 99149 Here is one...

Should I opt for oil delete? confused. seeking expert consult

WD is good for cleaning but I would forgo the white lithium grease for something a little more water resistant. I've had very good results with Evinrude Triple-guard Grease and Yamaha Marine grease in this application Would also highly recommend a "cable nut" once you get everything cleaned...

    Multi function display

It would work but looking at the docs its does way more than basic engine data. I would be concerned with the "ease of use" of the HMI interface. Not a fan of "push button" menu structures

    Multi function display

Not a bad price at all if it’s plug and play. Otherwise you need a Gateway plus a Display The “best” MFD depends on what functionality it’s required to support. If your intent is only engine gauges your probably better off with a digital gauge package from the manufacturer

Which lube do you use for Lubricating shift cables

Interesting… didn’t know lubing cables was a thing. I just assumed all control cables were sealed for life.

Salt from outboard ruined my tools!!

My wife bought one of these tool sets for me as a boat warming present in 2005. Kit has never been off the boat for more than a couple of hours but still looks like new. Never much thought about it....must be plated or a high chromium content steel alloy...
