    Need a Winter Project.

That’s too bad I wish I had bought more old iron in the 80 s when it was relatively cheap. I bought a 65 lemans coupe in 1987 that was prob like your moms … one owner 66 k miles never should have sold that car. After that all I wanted was a ‘real’ gto. I bought this convert that had...

    Need a Winter Project.

Nice to see another poncho... I'm chipping away at my 65 GTO , just got Tri Power back on it , finishing interior. Hopefully top and another repaint in the next year or two. Really just enjoying driving it as I bought it in 1990, and has taken me 30 years to get this far. Just got it road worthy...

Help a new guy out . Pcv valve

is that a Merc engine serial number or GM block casting number? Doesn't show in parts searches. Usually on the flame arrestor cover there is tune up into but also as section with Merc engine, transom, and drive serial numbers. If it is the original merc block a serial number tag will be riveted...

2003 Ebbtide Mercruiser 3.0 engine rattle? Normal?

Take hi volt wire from coil off center post of distributor and hold close to clean ground on engine block, crank engine should see a good blue spark that can jump 3/8”/10 mm or so. If not spark here will need to diagnose distributor sensor and ignition module. if you have spark off coil, verify...

Long term engine storage prep question

As mentioned if you bag it you will be fine. I did a rebuild on a Pontiac 389 years ago. Sat for three years with just assembly lube in it . Added oil primed via distributor hole with priming tool/drill, broke in the cam…years later it still runs well.

Just a final check on outdrive choice

I would go for a 1.47 drive in that rig. My Sea Ray 200 (21 ft ish) is listed as 3200 dry, has a 5.0/260 hp, with a 1.81 drive I can hit the rev limiter with a 21" 4 blade Revolution 4 prop and a couple adults. Your engine is a little more than stock too? If you ask about SEI drives you hear...

Just a final check on outdrive choice

Normally the ratios were 5.7 - 1.47 drive 5.0-1.62 drive 4.3- 1.81 drive 3.0- 1.98 drive unless you are at high altitude or have a small engine in a large boat I think you would want the 1.47 or 1.62 at the steepest. 1.81 you will over rev. These ratios allow you to use the typical prop...

Help a new guy out . Pcv valve

Boats dont use PCV valves there will be a tube from an elbow on the valve cover(s) that goes to a point on the flame arrestor, so basically any crankcase gas gets pulled into the carb. Flame arrestor should look like this vents to valve covers connect to the barbs- what does yours look like...

    Adding 100+hp. Would you re-prop ?

one comment about the bowtie intake as I assume that is what you are looking to go with? Seeing it is raw water if the manifold is aluminum you will likely have corrosion issues. Marine intakes have brass lined water passages or are cast iron. Couldn't tell from photo if you are cast iron or Al...

    Transporting a 20' boat on a flatbed.

That is the same set up I have on my magic tilt for my 21 ft Sea ray except I have carpeted bunks up front. See no reason as long as size and spacing is reasonably ok that that wont work for what you are doing.
