    There were issues with wires chafing under the powerpack.----Find the kit to remedy that issue.

    Well the motor needs to come apart.------Finding a shop to work on it might not be easy.-----Finding a rebuilt block might be the best option.----Need to find what caused this issue.----Or it will fail again.----Was water pump impeller replaced about every 5 years or so ??

    There are 2 poppit valves found next to the thermostat !----The 1980 models did not come with a primer.----So sounds like someone added that along with some newer carburetors I think.

    Replaced the impeller ?----Serviced the poppit valves ?----Tested the overheat horn ?----Does this powerhead have the electric primer or the choke plates ?

    There are " known issues " with the UFI ignition unit.----If you answer questions / provide information you can sort this motor out in no time.

    I do not believe the support for this older Mercury 2 stroke 9.8 is there from the factory !!!----There are lots of used parts available depending on your location.

    Flywheel key checked ?----Does it still have the powerpack under the flywheel ?----Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" or more on both leads ?-----Does primer bulb go hard ?----Any signs of melted wiring ?
