I assume I need an engine alignment, vibration when drive is engaged

check the props also, check to see if you have a dead cylinder. a motor with a dead cylinder will idle fine, however have a bit of vibration under load.

    Feed to hot water cylinder

do you mean a heater core? if so, just cap/plug them. the port on the pump is the return, the port on the manifold is the supply. however just plug them if you want to remove the heater core.

RE: Issues with Mercruiser 5.0 LX 4 Barrel Carb

get a whole pump kit, not just the impeller if the motor is running, the impeller should be turning. unless of course, you have a bad coupler, you broke the upper gear teeth, or you broke a shaft.

Chain locker bulkhead re fitting advise please (with pictures )

the bulkhead adds structure, however not really needed so close to the bow. I would personally just glue it in with sika or 5200. however if you want to tab it, then glue it in, then tab.

Chain locker bulkhead re fitting advise please (with pictures )

your original bulkhead was trimmed with a chainsaw so they could slap the cap on the boat and get it out the door to have the least amount of labor. if you want to tab it, then tab it. the primary two uses of the bulkhead are as follows: keeps the chain from landing on the pillows and your...

because most people are not looking at the "whats new" list of responses and only look in the sub forums. with over 250 sub forums when you include manufacturers, its impossible to monitor all of them. the most active manufacturing sub-forum is the starcraft forum as it has the most members...

    5.7 GM Marine Repower Options?

Lack of maintenance is what kills the motors I would talk to your local automotive machine shop. Line hone the mains, deck the block, LCQ pistons, +.001 on the normal bore, and you may need new heads $800/pair.

    5.7 GM Marine Repower Options?

first, unless your motors have high hours (and I mean over 5000), not sure why you would need to rebuild unless the boat sits in water and the exhaust manifolds failed. however assuming the motors are worn. take to your local machine shop. line-hone the mains, deck the block, bore out to the...

What percentage of value of motor do you replace? How much to spend on parts motor?

make sure you are only spending money on what needs money spent on. repairing what needs simple repair vs replacing. most of the time, a bit of TLC and you are off to the races so to speak.

What percentage of value of motor do you replace? How much to spend on parts motor?

my grey-noodle ramblings first, you have a $200 motor in many parts of the country (thats running). it may take $200 worth of maintenance parts every few years to keep running reliably. Just like the mortgage on your house is probably less than the utility bills and maintenance. Second, once...
