Volvo Penta 8.1 PFI missing on 3,5,7 and 8

Looks are deceiving, might look good but there is a connection in the harness or connector which is not making contact. Swapping is not the issue, need to find out why the coils are not firing. This is why wires need to be ohmed out (ring out). The coils just like the injectors and feeds...

    Fuel system selector/shutoff valve

No, pump the throttle just pumps what is in the carb. If nothing is in the carb, there is nothing to pump If you have mechanical fuel pumps, crank 10 seconds, let sit for 30 seconds and repeat. Do that twice then try a couple pumps and crank Can also drip just a very slight bit of gas down...

Temperature gauge issues? Can't get a temp reading?

I'm wondering if you bought the water temp switch and not the temp sender. The switch is open until it gets around 200*F then it closes. The temp sender

Are you asking about the 300 rpm's? If so, for the ECM to turn ON the injectors it first has to see that the distributor is firing. If the Tach doesn't show the rpm's then either the Tach doesn't work or the distributor isn't firing

Temperature gauge issues? Can't get a temp reading?

Clarification please; when the sender was in the hot water where you measuring using the ohms scale? and did the resistance get less as the temp raised?

Code 12 just means there are no stored codes When cranking do you see the Tach show at least 300 rpm?

Volvo Penta 8.1 PFI missing on 3,5,7 and 8

So using noid light on injectors there were no misses? If correct then this is a coil firing issue. I don't have a PFI manual but do have GI and GXI, or was the PFI a slip? Should ring out the wiring back thru connectors to the ECM.

Yes, and with you running out of gas, it shows you were only running on one

    EFI specs for techmate pro

Agree VP doesn't put to many actual values for a given sensor like Merc and Indmar does. The GXI manual list some fuel pressure values and 5V sensor but not a lot more. They are using mostly GM/Delphi sensors so could use the Merc manual to get some ideas

Volvo Penta 8.1 PFI missing on 3,5,7 and 8

Do you know if the misfire is caused by fuel injectors or spark plugs? NOID light can be used on injectors to see if they are turning ON/OFF

Stalling, Alarm sounding every 60 seconds

That is the number one failure of the Merc motors. They fail often and there is no pressure issue. Dang things are expensive for what they are Could test with a mechanical gauge (0-30 psi) Tee'd in same location

    Delco EST High Idle

Something is pulling a lot of current or the breaker is weak. The breaker is 50 amp and the solenoid and motor don't draw that much unless something is shorting out. Might be the breaker but would need a test setup to verify

2000 Mercruiser 7.4 mpi limited to 3900 rpm

It would need to be tested on the water. Doing it on the hard doesn't provide the info needed

Temperature gauge issues? Can't get a temp reading?

The Merc gasket as 2 brass rivets in it to help make electrical contact between the upper and lower. Take a jumper wire and clamp on side if the sender and ground it elsewhere to see if gauge works

Thanks, The scanner showed that the TPS changes as throttle opens and continues to change to 100% for the last 1/4 throttle when nothing changes? Same for the MAP Guess in short, was the scanner on the boat when these things were happening? If it was, then the motor is loosing power like from...

    7.4L Overheating

Removing the hose will work, I would have removed the hose coming from the pump to the thermostat housing. Don't know your serial number so the pic below is generic. Your motor should have a power steering and oil coolers. They are both inline with the hose coming from the raw water pump...

    Frustrated fuel

You have a TB distributor but not the module. The module is part of the MEFI-3 ECM The kit you have found should work.
