    High RPM surge driving me nuts!!!

    At idle the throttle plates are to be CLOSED.-----Idle speed is then controlled by timing.-----So there is usually a gap there.-----Do not start adjusting things unless you are absolutely sure that some thing is wrong.

    Well---Why would you suspect reed valve issues ???----I do not believe it is the reed valves at all.---Just put the tool box away and run this motor.

    Step #1 is a test with another gauge.------Those have a wee hole in the cylinder wall by design.----I do not believe there is anything wrong with your motor.------Write down your compression values.----Don't take this motor apart.

    The plate DOES NOT rotate with the flywheel.-----It rotates as you open the throttle.----At least it is supposed to.----Good luck with your motor.----I step aside.,

    Can you shift it with the throttle handle in the idle position ??-----Why not do some testing before jumping all over the carburetor !

    Put your Johnsuki motor in a proper test bucket.----Water level 8" above the impeller.---Test run.

    Some clown was trying to use MERCURY outboard throttle / shift cables on your " big Johnson "-----So get the correct cables and the bracket to hold them in place !!!

    Driveshaft splines are the ones up top that go into the crankshaft.----You have to look up part numbers or take them apart to see if this will work !!

    He said previous owner was " club fisted " and destroyed the carburetors.------He is looking for replacements with adjustable needles.-----I believe there is nothing wrong with fixed jet carburetors.----Owner should check everything before spending beer tokens on replacements.

    The motor without the cowling does appear to have a different lower unit ( cooling water inlet ) than the long shaft motor.-----Take powerheads off and see if gasket between block and exhaust housing is the same.
