    Shine a strong flashlight into each carburetor bore and observe amount of fuel coming up each nozzle.----Done at full throttle out on the river.

    In my opinion there are lots of electronic parts replaced on a hunch.-----Often folks then say " motor still runs the same "-------Go ahead if you can solve it with money , you do not have any problems.

    The 1988 model would have the external cylinders.-----Trim sending unit in one of the cylinders I believe.

    I have observed a shop apply a liquid ( acid wash ?? ) and then rinse the boat off with pressure washer.----Your local boat store / shop will have a catalogue with boat cleaning products.----Explain with pictures and they may have just what you need.

    Best to finish the boat first.----Save the beer tokens till boat is done.-----The motor work is easy.

    The original stainless pin is available at $2.73 or make one.----Newer drive keys were a plastic material.-----Not sure what lower unit is installed on your motor at this time.----Lower unit off a 1990 might fit.

    Item 35 is the temperature switch / sensor.

    Transom heights....why are some lower than others?

    Most bigger motors can be mounted higher using 4 different bolt holes.------The motor does not need to rest on the transom.

    Yes even a plastic material thrust bearing in them above the pinion.

    Yes 5 months every year.-----Just another example of nature baffling a lot of folks.----As stated , perhaps a corner of the lake near a point of fertilizer " run off " from farmers fields.----Stagnant water perhaps.----Run to the local boat shop.----They will have seen this before and will know...
