    Well you have to look at all the parts and numbers.-------It could very well be true.-----Same as the 3 cylinder version of this design one is 75 HP and another is 90 HP.---------Mare air / fuel going in means more power coming out !

    The timing on these generally does not go out of adjustment.-----How did this motor run for you last season ?-----Why do you feel timing is an issue ?

    Agreed.-----If the powerhead is original there is no " quick start " on those years.-----Is serial # on block the same as the midsection sticker.

    One new plug and one dark and oily may mean that the motor is running on just 1 cylinder.-----Post the compression numbers.-----See if spark jumps a gap of 3/8" ( 1 cm ) on both leads.

    There was no VRO in the 1970's models.----First one were 1985 or so.-----Model # or some pictures of your motor.-----First step in trouble shooting is a compression test , post your numbers.-----Or motor is running on just 1 cylinder !
