    You will find that the 1969 model 85 was lighter.----Tipping the scales at 245 lbs as per my 1969 factory brochure.----For some folks it is hard to believe that older motors were lighter than the modern sleek motors.

    Some how I think you have the wrong control box / ignition switch for what is installed on your motor now !!----The magneto does NOT need 12 volts to make spark.----Remove the one wire on the magneto and test for spark.----Not hard to do.-----You might as well consider removing the bottom half...

    Does any fuel come out the low speed jets at full throttle ?-----This lean " low speed setting " and the way those carburetors work is not well understood I think.

    Removing the INTAKE bypass covers should be easy.-----The EXHAUST cover is often harder to remove because cooling water get into bolt threads.-----Remove intake bypass covers.----But those pictures of cylinders are not encouraging.----Free motors can be expensive.

    Some lumber products last longer than others.----Look up ----huon pine----For boat building.------No idea what the stuff cost but apparently ultra rot resistant.----Apparently this wood can resist rot for 1000+ years.

    Correct.-----They use the same piece for for the back of these pumps.----Drill through for the one style of pump and not the other style.---The gasket can be used as a heat insulator.------All simple to me

    28 degrees BTDC is the usual WOT setting for the V-4 crossflow.------But timing on these motors is set at the factory for the life of the motor.-----What is your motor doing / not doing ?

    Some will argue.------Take starter apart for inspection and an ohm test on armature.-----If starter is original it has likely been abused by 4 of the last 5 owners.----Simple no money spent inspection.-----Those motors will start and run / idle on 2 of 4 cylinders !
