    A mid 70's model 50 / 55 HP.-----But pictures of the cowling if original will pinpoint the year in seconds..-----Any idea why it was taken apart ?

    Gear ratio

    Could be 12:27 or .44 on that motor.------But there are different lower units that will fit as well..----Remove sparkplugs.----Put motor in gear.------Turn flywheel 10 turns after prop starts turning.-----Count turns of the prop for 10 turns of flywheel.

    So it appears that the CDI unit is more than a simple rectifier.----Problem solved.

    A rectifier does not regulate voltage.----Not an expensive part so give the cdi unit a try.

    Don't some of these Bayliners have the nickname of ----Paperliners-------I would not want a free one like that other than to scavenge the parts and trailer.

    Starter rope replacement 1998 8hp Evinrude.

    I think you put the one end on the pully.----Then put the pulley in place.------Then wind the pulley until the spring is fully in the housing.----Actually quite painless and simple.

    When a 2 stroke is running some gas / oil mix goes right through the motor and is wasted.----It is not even compressed / burned.-----Yes , whenever the motor is running this is going on.----It is the nature of a 2 stroke motor.

    Locally I see folks looking for 9.9 / 15 HP OMC motors.----In any condition to rebuild / repair.----Many folks now realizing how good these motors are.

    There are many reasons why folks get rid of boats.-----If the drive is good you will get your money back on that alone.--If trailer is good you could now make a profit------Could be a cracked block or other issues.----Buyer beware on a " near free " boat I say.

    75hp Lower Unit - confirming reverse gear is engaged

    No need to argue / slam folks helping you.-----You turn the driveshaft the way the motor runs / turns.----Then observe rotation of prop.----Easy to tell what is forward and reverse.-----To engage reverse the driveshaft or the propshaft must be turning.----Just the way it works.

    Oil is mixed with the fuel !----That oil goes through the motor.-----Some of that fuel mixed with oil goes right through the motor and is wasted.----There is no o-ring or gasket that can stop that sludge from appearing.

    You will likely not be able to torque to 140 FT-LBS with a cobbled up repair.------That might shear the flywheel key.-----Replace the crankshaft I say.

    ??----Parts are #7 and #8 on the diagram.----They fit in #6 housing use a new O-ring on that housing too.-----Replace O-ring on shift rod too.----Item #25 on the diagram.---Gasket #27 on the cover.------Study about " shift rod height " adjustment too.

    There is nothing wrong with a crossflow when properly rebuilt.----But a newer 90 HP will make you happy.----New motors start with the push of a button.

    18 Hp Evinrude powerhead studs

    On a 1957 model 18 HP you would find 3 studs in the exhaust housing.----The studs are not in the block !!----Perhaps use heat and a vice grip to remove them.---Welding a nut on the stud is another option.-----They are a right hand thread.
