    Driveway Alarm/door bell

Been looking for a drive way alarm. Don't want it to be set off by a deer or other critter passing by. Found a couple of possibilities, but would really like a hard wired model. Drive way entrance is 250 feet away and I'm leaning toward the Dakota system, just wonder if the wire can be...

Ever get the other guys ticket

Going down the interstate doing 76 mph on cruise, posted limit 70 mph. I slowly easing up on a semi, in rear view see a black chevy coming up fast, so I stay put and as he passes ease over to the left lane. Never took the car off cruise, and now I'm at the rear of the semi, the chevy is at the...

Lesson Learned: Buoyant Bumper & Floods

I use carpet, can double or triple the thickness, but one layer against wood has never marked my boat. Could put some 1 to 2 inch thick wall plastic pipe under the carpet.

2000 mercruiser 7.4 fuel pump issue...

Sounds like a good plan. Many have cracked the plastic housings by over torqueing. The rubber o-ring keeps it sealed well, and will last a long time. Notice I had one internal part number (Item 14) and the item numbers off from my previous posting. Just to add to clear these issues up if...

Mystery rubber seal 12077 for gimbal housing anode

Never installed one but from what I can find, they are used on alpha and early bravo drives which do not have the mercathode installed. If the mercathode is not installed, this seal plug is inserted to seal the drive.

Mercruiser Horizon 5.7 temp getting high. Already replaced most cooling parts!

Suggest start with a IR temperature gauge and see what the reading is at the thermostat housing. If reading is close to the same on the boat gauge then OK, it's getting hot. You swapped the hose out and it started running cooler but now it's easing back up. Did you remove the transom plate to...

2000 mercruiser 7.4 fuel pump issue...

I'm a bit suspect that one wire on the ECM was loose, it could happen, but very unusual. My thought is the relay is going bad or there is corrosion on the relay terminals. Either way glad you got it going Impeller should be changed out every 2 to 3 years and it's not that hard. Remove the...

Installing a heater (Updated with pics)

Something that may cause some flow issue is the hose coming from the intake goes up and then back down. Since water is only being moved by the circulation pump it may have more difficulty over coming the additional lift. They may be more flow on the other side but don't think there should be...

    Generator

This is a tuff one, Phasor has next to nothing I can find on the web, guess if you hold all the info, you have to go back to them to get it fixed. Most all Gen's to my understanding work the same way. The armature winding is excited from voltage coming from the regulator. There should be two...

    bilge pump

If your turning the switch on the dash to ON then it will continue to run. The switch should have two positions and when on it sends power to the pump, in the "Automatic" position the power is controlled by the float switch in the bilge. Note the Off position should not be there in pic below

    Ruger LCP vs. S&W Bodyguard

Haven't tried either of those, I have the Kel Tek 380. Think they should all be good for close-in self defense. Appears the Body Guard has a safety and the Kel Tek is the smallest

Missing drain plug....Will I have to replace engine?

Air doesn't freeze, but once you get all the water out, knock your self out if that's what you want to do Your drain on the starboard side should be located with the knock sensor

    Tire Chains

Have not used tire chains in many years. Previously used link and wire, link rougher riding and more noise but also were better at moving. Wire less on both sides but wound up lasting longer. Looking to get some for my truck if we ever get a bad winter it would be nice to have on hand. Have...

Sea Water pump required for closed coolong system ?

Well SJE designed the system to work with the alpha drive pump, so I agree with Ted and just use what you have. If you go with belt drive pump, I suggest go get a serpentine belt and change your pulley's. Bottom right (Bravo) routing

    Old Reddy Heater need motor

Have a very old Reddy Heater M100D. Been working great for all these years (about 25) until today. The motor would just hum, so I flipped the fan by hand and it started and heated up my area. Later took the motor apart and found the front bearing was dragging. The short of it, the front bearing...
