    If----" it ran fine on his boat " ----as you stated the only thing you would have to do is adjust your throttle and shift cable.----Hopefully this does not go to a 50 post drawn out saga.------There has to be to this story of it running fine when you handed over the cash.

    Keep fuel to the shortest length.----Using 3/8" ID hose where possible helps the pump too.

    Use a wee jumper wire.----Go from battery post on the solenoid to the small post on the solenoid.----See if motor cranks.

    If the horn goes " chirps " and the primer solenoid clicks I would say the fuse is good.------I would take the starter apart for inspection and ohm test on armature.----That work will tell you a lot and costs NOTHING to do !

    Your speed over the bottom changes.----That is due to the water moving.----Motor still works the same !

    Are you pushing the key in while cranking it over ?------Have you battery load tested.------Take starter apart for cleaning , ohm check on armature and possibly new brushes.

    Temperature of the water has absolutely nothing to do with the starting of the motor !!-------Perhaps look into crankcase compression issues.------And all the other routine trouble shooting.

    I would be very very careful if you start making linkage adjustments !!----You said the motor ran fine on the sellers boat.

    Maybe the starter and your battery are not turning the flywheel fast at 250 + RPM to get the system to work. ?----Sorry , I am not there to see your motor.

    The flywheel key puts the flywheel in the correct position on the crankshaft for proper ignition timing.----If it shears the timing will change.-----And no you can not find a sheared key with a timing light.----Well thought out trouble shooting will find what is wrong with your motor !!

    Correct-----Sometimes folks will see a leak.------Then plug the hole where the fuel is leaking.------Instead of fixing the cause for the leak.------Post pictures of this carburetor and show the hole for the vent.----How did this motor run for you last year ?

    Drain the carburetors or run them empty when you put the boat on the trailer.

    Well there was a service bulletin that came out in 1994 to move the tell tale to the top of the block.----To me it means that no one who cares has looked at this motor over 25 years.----Post your compression test numbers.----There were lots of issues with #2 cylinder scoring the piston.
