    These cable steering units are fairly standard .-----Something very simple is wrong with the way the unit is mounted on the console I say.----Is this a new unit ?-----Used unit ?

    Using the wrong oil , cheap oil, wrong mix is not something that manifests itself in a few days.-----Some day you will see a gray haired fisherman running a 60 year old motor and running like new.-----Ask that fellow what oil he uses and what mix !

    Start with some testing and inspection.------Remove recoil.-----Remove plate on top of flywheel.----Do you see newer coils in there ?----Does spark jump a gap of 1/4" on both leads?-----Do a compression test and post your results.

    You need 4 new pistons !----Take this thing apart.---Inspect everything before ordering parts.

    No point in doing anything or cleaning the carburetors.----That motor has scored pistons !!!!------It needs to come apart for rebuilding.-----Now you might understand post #2 on this list I think.

    Is this a 4 cylinder motor ?-----Any pictures of the distributor / ignition system / ignition coil ?----Not sure you can find a condenser that you can replace on a CDI system !

    Any pictures of the steering as installed.----It is not assembled correctly at the helm.

    Take the bypass cover off and have a look at piston and rings on that lowest PSI cylinder.---Invest in that $2.00 gasket.-------With 90 PSI if it was not the head gasket I would take the motor apart.

    1959 Evinrude 5.5 fired up!! Prop depth?

    Look at / find a set of transom brackets for say a 1968 V-4 Johnson or Evinrude.----Those big motors just slipped in those brackets.----Then 2 captured bolts held the motor in those brackets.-----Might be an option for you.

    First step is a new impeller !-----How long have you owned it?-----Most motors should have a new impeller installed every 5 years.
