Loose Strap From Winch To Bow

Several years ago a guy came back from fishing and his electric winch was gone. People did see someone taking it but paid no mind as they thought the owner was servicing it for some reason. All they had was it was a guy in a red truck. Never got it back.

    Solar charging batteries

I was told early afternoon. It takes about an hour by the time we get set up, get it lifted and driven over to the liftwell. It’s parked about 250 feet from the well. We will see how the day goes! the guys will be doing other services on the boats in the morning I’m told.

    Water in bilge

You can do the old reverse trick and use your garden hose to fill your bilge completely with water. You may be able to spot leaks going out easier than coming in. NO! Never do that. You will probably soak the starter and it’ll end up junk. And you will overload your trailer.

    Chinese carbs

Yup. Tried one on my weedwhacker, big nope! But the carb and kit came with new fuel lines and filters and gaskets. Saved a bit of money on those parts. Rebuilt the original one and it’s fine.

    Solar charging batteries

Can you “trick” the charge into thinking there is life in it? I know with modern chargers you have to have a load of sorts to get the chargers to sense it. Solar may not work like that.

    Hyper spark???

Move the wires away from the pickup? Are you put the pickup close to the plug or up by the cap? It should be down by the plug.

    Next time anchor.

My brother got sucked out to sea at Daytona beach. The lifeguards saw him and kept hollering into their megaphone to swim to the side. He finally got the message and he was safe. We never knew of riptides as we were from northern Wi. Learned a lesson that day!

    outdrive Vs Coupler

Bought a boat several years ago, the po had just got back from a run clear out to the Apostle Islands and then I bought it. I did all the maintenance on it and just for giggles decided to pull the top cap on the drive even though it passed all the tests. The top gears were almost gone! the po...

    1985 Bayliner Capri Restore?

My 95 Larson isn’t the best either but I decided to restore it. It should be done by spring. Be prepared to get glass dust everywhere! I’ll never get back what I got into it but it was an interesting project.

    Solar charging batteries

At the shop we have a yard trailer, one tech put a small solar charger on it and it did not work well. Another tech put a regulator on the charger of some kind and now it works perfectly. I’ll try to get a model of the regulator this coming week. Note: I did not read all the responses on this...

Mercruiser 3.7 4 Barrel Electric Choke

I’m the grey haired guy who is on the customer side of the counter telling them what they should be looking for, not what they think I need.

Mercruiser 3.7 4 Barrel Electric Choke

Take a picture of the carb, record the serial number on the carb, go to your local parts store and show them what you have and need. It’s just an automotive choke system installed on a marine carb. They should be able to fix you up. If not retry a different parts store. that being said, are you...

    boat trailer calipers vs auto

Automotive calipers get wet every time it rains. I get the salt water thing, but living in a salt water environment they get some on there also. I’ve always believed that boat calipers were mfg with less care about quality, but then again your trailer sits around a lot and doesn’t get used...

    Where are the shutoff valves?

Saw that fairly often around here. Supposedly self priming but depends on the outlet hose routing. A quick pull off the hose burped the air out of the pump and then it goes well.

    Planning for spring tune up

exactly, I’m used to the big water. You break down out there and you are miles from help, even with towboat insurance, bad weather will kill you in a minute. Lake Superior cold water only gives you 10 minutes on a good day.

    Where are the shutoff valves?

Look under your sink in the head, or any nearby floor panels for a ball valve. Sometimes you have to look deep into your boat to find them. Ac unit usually has a valve near the circulation pump, normally in the engine room but I’ve seen some in silly places. All sink drains discharge overboard...
