06 Mercruiser 5.0 MPI no power above 2000 rpm - thoughts?

Dealt with one like that a few years back. Everything was replaced by the owner short of the sparkplugs. They "looked" fine according to him. I checked fuel pressure, timing, and fuel condition ect.... I also talked on the phone with MerCruiser and sent me on a crazy path to diagnose without a...

    Can’t get on plane

Might be time to flush the tank. Remove all fuel, remove sending unit. I’ve flushed with water. I took a copper pipe and sealed one end, drilled holes along the end and rigged it to a garden hose, stick it in there and bend it to get past any baffles and work it around. Remove all water you can...

    Can’t get on plane

Any carb I've rebuilt were unmodified, they were factory setups so I can't really help with jetting and such. Looking at your fuel, do you have a steel fuel tank? That looks like rust particulates to me.

    Can’t get on plane

A bad tachometer will cause running issues also. A quick check is to unhook it and give it a go. Other than that, A good rebuilder can tune that carb. I'm 66 years old and have done many of them. Thay aren't that hard to do. Any carb that has come across my desk from outside rebuilders usually...

    Water in reservoir

I’ve seen a number of them leak from the shift shaft above that area. Not saying that is the issue but, if it is that’s an easy quick fix.

    Water in reservoir

Stop running it now! You have a seal leaking someplace, and water in that amount will ruin your drive. It needs a re-seal. A good competent shop can do it, also so can you. Read the stickies at the top of this forum and see if it's soething you want to tackle.

HELP: Rusted bolts on leaf springs

Heat wrench goes a long way to getting them out. Just don’t overheat and take the temper out of things.

Can the base of engine work? Two to bolts under engine are rusted and can

Quicksilver parts are the real thing. Anything else is not. You pay more but it’s better than doing it twice.

Risk of building house close to lake

Yeah, saw that. Bunch of people hurt. Night boating can be risky with the lights from shore making you think you are out further than you are. Regardless, to much speed is the fault here…

    Draining a built-in fuel tank

Just unhook the fuel line from the tank, add hose as needed to a barrel. Hook up your pump and have at it. Why you need to drain it?

    White Ground wire

I only use crimp style connectors that after they are crimped with the proper tool you shrink the plastic that they come with. West marine has them. Sealed well. those ones that you just stick the wire in and hit with a heat gun are not a proper connection.

    Mystery trim/tilt motor

Yup, that is the reservoir on the bottom. I have three boats with the same setup. See that screw between the two lines on the top? that is where you fill it.

    White Ground wire

I always run the white to each light. On my new caravan they already did that for me. Most reliable way to do it!
